You really cannot compare the two, Adsense is for contextual ads and you get money per click. Clickbank is just a mere marketplace to find digital affiliate products, and you get a commission per sale, not click. So really, do both successfully and cash will flood in...so to speak.

Is it more difficult to get someone to click an add or buy a product?

It depends on how you get traffic and the type of traffic you get.

Of course it's harder to get someone to buy a product. For example, I was running this affiliate (commission) banner on one of my sites. After around 500 clicks I made a sale that earned me $2.50 (the traffic was very targetted too). Think if I got paid $0.10 for each of those clicks instead? I would have made 100% more money. Of course this isn't always how it works... but PPC (IMO) is generally better to use.
