On the affiliate side:
Clickbank is a very good third party processor for ebooks and software. They cut checks for their affiliates every two weeks and you can manually set your minimum balance to lower that $100 which if I can remember correctly was the default minimum balance. Clickbank pays affiliates on time. They are also very easy to apply and get set up with. They also have tons of digital products.
They are very prompt in issuing refunds to customers and the standard period is 60 days.
One thing you may have to do if you are an affiliate is to mask your urls by using software or free services like tinyurl. Web savy affiliates can alter your tracking url to include their affiliate url to keep comissions to themselves if they decide to buy products they found through your affiliate link. Those that may attempt to do this will generally be in the internet marketing niche (make money, seo). Other products would generally have people who are just interested in the products and not getting comissions.
As actually being the merchant who sells a product I've not have experience with that.
