Hey Guys,

I've been tracking the progress of CrazyEgg.com for well over a year now, and I finally found out today that their site has opened and they are offering the most sophisticated and spiffy click tracking service available at the moment:

http://www.crazyegg.com/

Take a look for yourself, it's certainly something that will help web publishers improve upon their current earnings and ad placement techniques.

Analytics is now also available to the public and, in my opinion, has much better offerings, including a (admittedly more limited) heat-map style tracking of pages.

Actually I see it the opposite way. 5000 visitors would be enough for me to determine on any individual site what's working and what's not. So I in fact think you're giving away too much. Most will sign up, use it for that 5k then have what they need and leave.

Exactly, 5,000 visits is quite a large testing pool. I've already used the 5,000 visits in under a day. I set it to test 1,000 visits or 2 days. Too bad I didn't know it would stop at which ever comes last. :/

I'm running it on one of my sites right now and it seems to be having some trouble with ASP. Also, no way that I can see to exclude ip blocks, which is a problem for me. Don't want a bunch of false positives from people within the company who are using the site. Other than those two issues, I like it so far.

Ok I've been running with this on one of my sites for a short while now.

Cant say I'm hugely impressed. The heat map was something I was palying around with at uni for a while years ago and admit that its kinda cool.

But otherwise, google analytics seems to do a much better job.

Anyone else given it a proper test drive?

I read in a recent review of CrazyEgg that if your page layout changes, the heatmap will automatically adjust itself? Now that's clever.. but how well does it work? Could I come up with a complete re-design?

Hmm - not sure how the heatmap would update itself as from what I can tell it just records X-Y coordinates for the clicks.

Maybe they mean that the link counts (i.e. the little coloured + things next to links) will automatically update? Thats easy to do from a code perspective as long as the link URLs are the same.

Just signed up with this today on one of my sites and it's interesting to see how people interact with the site. Great analytics and the heatmap is just plain cool! They also now have IP blocking so you don't track your own IP. Can't wait to see what the results are!

I think that the heatmap "updating" itself refers to the "hotspots" staying on top of the link itself, and not a specific X,Y coordinate.

I noted this a while ago on my blog (it even got a response from CrazyEgg's CEO! http://enriquegarcia.net/blog/blogging/crazyegg-update/ ), that on my biggest site, every time I would update it, the newest (top) article would have no hot spots and the hotspots that USED to be at the top moved down, fixed to the article that used to be on top.

So it seems like a combo, the hotspots remained at a fixed X,Y coordinate but relative to the link itself, not to the page.

Really cool service. The Heatmap and Click Through Counters are very helpful to get an idea of what's working and what isn't, especially for a smaller blog like mine.

5,000 for free is a great offer. It might not be suited to bigger sites, but it certainly works perfectly for smaller sites, which would do best with this kind of service anyhow.

My only problem is that it seems to be really slow and, as of late, doesn't even load entirely. I think it's because of the annoying flash loading image and FireFox that things bugger around, and it could be because of some of my plugins, but it's still annoying.

Overall, an awesome service and well worth the time to sign up for the freebie account.
