Ann that's a tough question for anyone to give you a solid answer on. Not because they don't want to share but because the answer is too dependant on so many factors.
I'll give you an example to better explain.
I have an entertainment (videos funny pics etc) related site. I use YPN on it. It gets roughly 1000 unique visitors per day. Some days it makes barely $20. Other days it can make as much as $50. So to tell you just how much traffic it takes to make x amount of dollars as you can see depends on quite a few things.
- What nework you use.
I use YPN who's targetting is terrible but the ads pay well. Some days I get over $1 per click. Others I'm lucky to get $0.25. If I used Adsense I'd probably get a lot more clicks because of ad relevance but on an entertainment site I'd expect below 5 cent clicks to be the norm.
Also, on the CPM front, a simple search of the forums will tell you just how many crap networks there are out there that rarely ever pay over 18 cents CPM. But depending on how you set up your chaining they can be great fillers.
- Site niche
As I stated it's an entertainment site so the clicks don't earn much on either of the 2 major PPC networks. And again also on the CPM front your site niche may be the determining factor as to whether you get those coveted targetted campaigns you'll hear people talking about where your site gets 2 and 3 dollar CPMs (or more).
- Traffic
My traffic goes up and down but the majority of the time my revenue stays the same. I'm into diversifying ad having multiple revenue streams and I think that's the key to my revenue being so steady even with fluctuating summer traffic. My wife hates it because she just wants to know how much money were getting this month . But it's hard to explain to her how we'll have to wait for all these different payments from different networks but overall I always make more money when I have multiple ad types and companies on a site.
- What ad types you're using.
Another reason my 1k visitors will be different from your 1k users is the way I advertise to them. I'm not afraid to put an intersatial or single 12 hour pop-under on them but that is usually because my content is so sticky that they don't mind a pop or intersatial to get to it and they will come back.
OK so I said all that to just say.. it depends
