Oh Joy, I have just made my first commision from Text link ads. That has made me happy today.
I have been promoting Text Links on my blog directory as an ad but last week decided to email my subscribers. What they keep on telling me is true, there is money in your list.
Hope this helps others realise they should be building their own list.
I also discovered I could set up my own computer to act as a mail server. This has been a lot easier to send out emails rather than using my hosting mail server (which has very strict limits even though I only send a few hundred emails at a time and very infrequently).

Problem though is most broadband company IP addresses are automatically included in SPAM blacklists. I ran into that problem hosting sites from my home server. The emails that were being sent from scripts on my site would often not get through because they were being sent from a broadband IP.
