Suggestions to better monetize my site?

My site has been running for a few months now, and I'm getting about 3000 unique views each month. While that may not sound like a ton, the traffic is steadily increasing and I'm happy with how it's going.

I currently have one google button and one Linkshare ad on the side panel. I'm making next to nothing on Adsense. Just started Linkshare so I can't really comment on that yet.

I feel like I could be doing more with this site to make it profitable, but I'm not sure what. I don't want to litter it with ads and make it look unappealing, but I don't think I've used it to it's full potential either.

I would love any input and constructive advice. Please note, this is only for my main site, and not the forums. I won't put ads on the forums.

Thank you in advance. The link to my site in my signiture - "dog training information"

I think affiliate marketing will work very well for you. Dog lovers will be interested in new products for their pets.

I wouldn't have that graphic ad separating the AdSense ads from the menu. Also, I would put a small banner (468x60) after the first article on your pages listing the articles, and a 336x280 box somewhere in the text of the actual article. You should try making the title color of your AdSense ads blue. I know it's not blended with your site, but people tend to think blue = link and would be drawn to click it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I put a small banner ad inbetween the first two training articles, and I moved the button ad up one.

I'm not sure how to put one in the actual text of an article though, so I'm still working on that.

You don't think that would be too many ads? I don't want to turn my visitors off.

How about selecting the top 20 threads from the forum and packaging them into an eBook, maybe in a Question and Answer format? Do that each month and sell it for a low price ($5) to your members.

Try adding Kanoodle.com or Kontera to your site for earning extra cash.

Just an update that it's working so far! Today I got the most traffic I've had since the change in ad placement and I made a whopping $2.07 in adsense clicks!

I also made a little money on the CPAEmpire link I have in the side panel. (take a quick pet survey for a free giftcard)

Any suggestions on where to better place the CPA offer to get better results? I would love to put a small banner ad for it inbetween the article previews like the adsense ad is, but they don't have any available. Only contextual links and big ads.

Okay, I'm feeling like a dip for not thinking of that myself. LOL

Quick question, do you think that would be over using the ads? I'm so afraid of turning my visitors away if they think the site is too ad saturated.

... you have like... 0 ads on your site. Actually 2 adsense, but no, you can ad more (and should) nice job on moving the affiliate offer, but make the font bigger. a person doing that is worth 1.50 or something, that's a lot more than a .15 adsense click.also, take off the adsense on the left side bar, and try adding one at the very top before any of the content. Keep track of your CTR.

Thanks for the tips. I guess I'm just wary of them because I know how much they annoy me when I visit a site so i don't want to overpopulate my page with ads.

But you're right, I probably have way less than most websites. I'll make the link bigger and work on moving the adsense from the side bar to somewhere at the top.
