My friend and are have pretty much finished this site.

*can't post urls so attached is a screen shot of the home page (scaled down)*

We only have a few things left to do (including buying a domain and making a new banner).

I was wondering how you all think I should launch the site and what type of monetization you recommend.

My plan is this as of now.

Get as many people as possible to put a link to the site in thier sig.
Advertise it on forums.
Get a whole bunch of people to submit the launch to Digg one day.

For monitization I was thinking contextual with google ads in place of the latest media.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try some pre-roll or post-roll advertisements in the videos themselves maybe.

Google ads will do just fine as long as they are properly blended with the content.

AdSense is the quickest to get started. Then add CPA and captures down the road.

AdSense isn't the only way to make money! How about these:

1. Offer tabsheets that you've created yourself, along with
lyrics that you've transcribed and even your own personal tips
for playing the song and effecting the artist's style.

Perhaps packs of 10-15 tabsheets, maybe grouped by artist,
genre, album and so on. $12-18 per pack?

2. Offer video tutorials, teaching your visitors how to play the
guitar. Have several different guides going over different music
styles, techniques, perhaps even a step by step "how to play
this song" to be bundled with a tabsheet from 1?

3. A classifieds section to let your users buy and sell second hand
musical equipment.

4. Become an affiliate for a gig ticket seller, offering tickets to gigs
featuring lots of guitar music.

5. And so on...

Don't rely on PPC - if AdSense bans you, there's no going back.

any suggestions for marketing ?

MySpace would be a good place to start. Plus, it's worth getting
ranked in the search engines, so concentrate on strong SEO.

Oh, and go for the social mainstream - create short introductory
tutorial videos, or showing off videos and upload them to as many
free video sites as you can find.

Then bookmark the bigger sites (YouTube, Google Video) in the
larger social bookmarkers (Reddit, Digg). Make sure you've got your
URL embedded clearly in the video.

I agree with WillB. They seem like great ideas to start with
