I'm not sure if this is a stupid question, so bear with me...

But would it make sense in the case of some sites, maybe to gain the trust of users, or to keep people from thinking your origional intent from day one is to make cash, to delay integrating your contextual and affiliate advertising until after a site's launch?

I realize this probably depends heavily on the nature of the site, but in general what would you say for forums, for utility sites, content sites?

Good question. For me I put the ads on day one. How many people are not going to come back if they see an ad? And really if someone is turned off by a website with ads, then they weren't going to buy anything anyway, let them leave.

I can see where it could make a difference, but personally I don't worry about it and start with ads right away in most cases.

I think when you're starting a forum or a website you should wait until you have some decent traffic before integrating ads into your site. You don't want to turn users away at the beginning from too many ads but once your site grows and starts getting more traffic users won't be as turned away from them.
