So I just put Adsense up on the one established website that I run. It's a website for a buddy of mine who runs a custom motorcycle shop in town so there are quite a few "Jesse James" and "OCC" ads that are showing up, which is good. The website has barely made any money as far as online sales of parts are concerned, it created a new line of business for him that his girlfriend runs (custom motorcycle frames). It also ranked very high (#1 spot) for quite a few search terms for a while that helped generate traffic to the site. The rank has dropped quite a bit, but because of forums, word of mouth, etc the site generates about 200 hits a day.

Anyways, I wanted to get signed up for adsense and affiliate programs sooner than later so this website is my guinea pig. I never expected it to really make any kind of money but only after 24 hours we've already earned $5.24!

I know it's not a lot of cash but I'm getting really excited about the possibilities. I have a few projects on the go right now but I'm really looking at researching SEO and the different types of content we can put on the site to help drive more traffic there and maybe eventually justify re-opening the catalog. Does anyone have good articles on SEO or links to sites that might help me out with it? I had looked at it a while ago and have done some searches but most of the stuff I'm seeing is just companies offering SEO services. SEO is one skill I'd really like to have under my belt for these other opportunities I'm pursuing. Thanks in advance!

PS. Sorry for not posting in the SEO section, I think this thread can kind of go in both places.

200 visitors per day and $5.24 is not bad at all. Congrats.

I believe most of your visitors are from US because usually US traffic is more valuable. Congratulation

Yeah, for the design-cycle site (where it's coming from), our target was the US because our drop ship company will only drop ship within the US. When I think of other ways the site can generate some profit then we'll hopefully pull in more people from around the world and then I won't be so concerned with adsense profit (we're almost at $10!) and will probably pull some of the ads.

You earn that much because your in a niche market and people that visit your site, bike lovers, dont know much about ads so they click on it. :P Not to insult bikers but I dont see a leather coated biker style type a guy going for a webmasters degree.

I hear ya and I'm banking on the fact they either like clicking on adds or just don't know.

However, I'm a leather coated biker style guy (built my own chopper seen here: http : // www . chopperweb . net / forum / articles.php?action=viewarticle&artid=93 [non-related forum, so I just broke up the URL]) and I'm a Computer Engineer Technologist/Software Developer/Web Developer. But people do call me a freak soooo hehehehe

Is that $5.24 from shareasale only? I didn't see any adsense blocks on design-cycle.com (maybe you just integrated them REALLY well)

It's funny, you're the second person to say that to me. Wanted to show a buddy last night and he couldn't see them either! There should be two text/image blocks on the index page (one under the header and one above the footer) and then there should be an image only block right above the shareasale stuff. I know I can see them using firefox so I'm curious what's up. We're up to $11.65 right now but if half the people visiting aren't seeing them, **** maybe we could have been at our $50 minimum already!

So when are you building me a chopper? I want one in the WORST way and I'm 6'5 so I could get a radically long body too.

Show me the $$$$ and I'll build you ANYTHING you want. I'm 6'4" and the guy I built the design site for is 6'6" so we know ALL about bikes that feel too small hehehehe

We do some crazy things with bikes too, the one I built (in that broken up link) uses the bottom rails for the exhaust instead of separate pipes.
