When you have a content site, how long do you generally wait before you try to monetize it? Do you put ads up right away, or wait until the traffic is decent?

I started a new site http://swforceunleashed.com earlier this week for a game just announced by lucasarts, and I'm wanting to know when I should try to monetize it.

For on the main hompage i hold out as long as possible but on the inner pages i usually have them less atrusive so that it is no big deal. as the point is to make money

I would agree with Mike's method, personally. As long as they aren't abtrusive and ugly, which they never should be anyways even if you wait awhile and then decide to make your site ugly, heheh.

So i'd say don't limit yourself to a date, I do understand the reasoning though. But it seems like if you get regulars that are used to a site without ads it would be even more of a bummer to see ads when they aren't accustomed to it. Just my 2 cents!

I would put ads straight away, so that visitors get used to it in the beginning itself and pray that they click every single time(lol).

I use to wait a little while, but now I just put them up on day one. The longer you do this sort of stuff the more you know how to get traffic, what works and what doesn't etc.
