I am trying to get one of my sites on the first page of google. I have a site that is now almost two years old it has a PR 5 and gets average traffic, it is indexed and I am trying to increase not only the traffic but the CTR, the content is good and unique it has regular updates with fresh content, it has lots of back links and is optimized, How can I increase the traffic and adsense revenue without too much alteration to the site. It has on occasion been on the front page but bounces back down the rankings.

Have you tried article marketing for increasing your website traffic? What methods are you currently using or have used in the past to generate the traffic you are receiving now?

Increasing the CTR is mostly layout changes, placing your ads in better positions, changing the color schemes etc.

Personally, I find article submission + ads blending works pretty well.

I would suggest the following methods for you to stick to to have notch a good position on the google. These methods are proven and really work,
1- Write atleast two articles/week and post them in major article directories.
2- Submit 2-3 Press Releases about various aspect of your website( or Niche).
3- Collect emails of your visitors to send them periodic emails newsletter about what is hot and new on your website to get them back on your website.
4- Visit 5-10 forums and post good,meaty messages so that people may like you and think you an authority on the topic.They would for sure visit your site to learn more.
5- Don't forget to use RSS feeds to multiply your traffic.It is highly beneficial.
Stick to this plan for at least 3-5 months you will see an incredible surge of traffic on your site.

Try to get visitors from Search Engine. SE send very targeted Traffic.

I think you need to keep getting more quality backlinks to your site and also internal pages. The more links you get the better, but don't forget that the better quality they are the more wait they are likely to gain.

I'd suggest purchasing a few links from quality, content related sites. These one-way links do wonders for rankings. This will definitely boost your Google rankings, as well as build backlinks. (obviously..)

With the traffic you receive from popping up into the top 3, it should help revenue/traffic-wise as well.

be careful with this, as you get links to quick and google will suspect there is something up and penalise you.

Submit articles, post in forums(not spam but legit posts with your signiture of your site), Traffic exchange sites, Solo email ads. you need to get atleast some alexa ranking of unique visitors.

More posts in sites you make around the net then it looks liek your site is popular in the spiders eyes

Google is big, they have lots of links pointing to their site, then links are giving them alot of traffic.

Now we want to get out there, we need links to get traffic. No if Google was not on the Web, I will still get as many links as I can just because of the direct traffic from the links. Just because Google is on the web doesn't mean that I am going to grow a business very slowly just incase Google may penalise me. To advertise a site you will need links.

If you want to get good traffic from Forums, you are going to have to have links on the forums in your sigs, if you want to get traffic from bookmarking sites, you need links so people can click. The slower you get links the slower you will grow with your link referral traffic.
