I just wanted to share with you all an article that I recently posted on my site that I thought might be helpful/interesting/fun :-)

I recently became interested in finding out how much my site could be worth if I decided to sell it one day, and have come up with a) some metrics for measuring the value of a site (which I've pasted below), and b) a tool to automatically value any given URL.

Please let me know how accurate it's predictions are with your sites, I'd appreciate some feedback.

Here are some key points from my article for evaluating the resale value of a website:

1) The age of the site - How long has it been around? What are the traffic trends and how does the site respond to traffic spikes? For example after being Dugg, do the new visitors come back often or was it a one-time visit?

2) What is the Google PageRank?

3) Email List Subscribers - Does the site come with a list of email subscribers?

4) Media Coverage - Has the site been featured in any recent news stories?

5) How many backlinks does the site have? This is the number of other sites linking-in to this one.

6) Forum Included - Does the site host a forum, and if so how active is it?

7) Where does the site appear in search engine rankings? Does the site appear in the top-five results?

8) Are there multiple blog authors? If so, what will happen to their content once you take over? Are you willing to continue whatever arrangement they had with the previous owner?

9) How is the site being monetized? What other options could you explore?

10) What is the main source of traffic? How could you drive more traffic?

Mine is valued at $452,731, but that doesn't take into account traffic, assets and income, so it should be worth considerably more

Haha, nice tool. My site was valued at $73, of course it is only in beta and is unreleased. It's page rank is .01.

Pretty neat tool... is pretty useless for e-commerce sites though. I ran a site through that's got over $20k/mo in revenue and it pegged it at being worth $1500.

Na not really, my alexa ranking is 15, bloggers rank not my individual blogs rank

My blog that has a proper alexa rank of 914,596 and a PR of 4/10 is valued at $1,118, thats about double what it actually makes in a year.

i`m not sure how accurate these things are

1 of my sites was PR1 and valued at $12000+ and is now PR3 and valued at $2245 according to another valuation site
and the valuation by CyberWyre is $171 with monthly earning potential of $0 lol, i am gutted :lol:

Haha! Well, that's true that there are lots of tools out there that provide valuation estimates. I'm trying to find an algorithm that most accurately estimates this number.

Most tools out there simply count backlinks and multiply them by the cost per backlink averaged over the AOL-Weblogs deal a few years ago.

Based on the figures people are posting, and a few sites of my own I checked, this tool seems a little more in the neighborhood as compared to some others I've used. What exactly are your metrics?

I tried this tool and it doesn't work in Firefox. I then tried it in IE and it gave an error. It seems it has a php error.

I have got a stable PR7 site with over 5000 backlinks in Google valued at $3000

I also got this message.
