I'm thinking of changing my blog layout from 2-columns to 3-columns.

Available choices for 3-columns are basically sidebar-content-sidebar or content-sidebar-sidebar. I'll probably place some adsense code and affiliate links at sidebar. So, which layout is the better choice if I want to increase CTR?

I think a good layout will be something that simple, plain and not very complicated in color. By the way, content is the most important element for a blog. People go to a blog because of its content and not its layout. Don't you agree?

Yes, people go mainly for the content, but he is asking about the monetization of adsense ads. Will he get more clicks if he has a 2 column blog or a 3 column blog.

I think it depends on the content and the overall design and the blending of the ads really.

I don't agree. As much as we like to think we go for substance, not style - the style is what it takes to get someone to stay long enough to find the substance.

If people can't find the substance - and fairly quickly - they won't stick around for long. It may be different for established sites, but I think if you're trying to build traffic to a new site, you have to have be attractive enough to get users to get hooked on the substance.

I run a 3 column layout and have pretty good luck with it. I don't put CPC ads in the side bars, but my affiliate offers perform well in the right side bar and my CPM ads have an average CTR in the left sidebar.

I like a 3 column layout as well, like I use at leedodd.com. I think it allows for best use of CPA ads, CPM ads, and a bit of CPC.
