Does anyone charge their members for anything? What types of perks are offered?

why would you.

It is important to build a list....but to give freebies away too i guess.

good information on the frontend..and then sell them on the back end but not too much.....

I guess it is a bit more complicated that what I have stated but it is all about creating a relationship and forming a bond so that they can trust you.

Let me ask you this? How do you pay for hosting, software, upgrades etc? Do you make enough off the ads?

most of my traffic is viral....I do use PPC from time to time and it does work..but you have to pay.....

but like I always say....you spend $1 and make $3 and your laughing..

so it really is easy to make money for hosting (which is cheap) software (which you only need a few things) and upgrades are optional...

hope this helps.

Yes that is what I am asking I am trying to think of ways to get people to want to be a VIP member but am at a loss. So far I have
Special forum just for them
entered into raffle each month
larger PM box

I was thinking maybe to add these:
Larger Avata
Larger PM box

and wanted to add more

You need to provide something of value and then keep adding to it monthly to keep members happy and keep them coming back for more. It's not easy running a membership site and you really need to plan out your updates or you'll fall behind.

Well it really depends on the site... I charge members for services my website provides... like hosting...

But for a forum?

Well I've got a couple forums and on one of them I have the option for people to pay to upgrade to a premium account... there are 3 paid levels that range up to $10 a month.

Certain perks that people get are:

- More PM storage
- Bigger size avatars
- Animated images in signatures
- Colored names
- File storage
- A few other little things like that

I thought the answer was pretty obvious - premium content.

My blog and photos are free but I charge for a video section

I offer free regular membership, but also premium membership with additional features, mostly as a way of donating to the site.

I'm going to start offering a premium membership soon for a small fee and give perks like custom title and premium member badge, different username color and bold, vip forum access, bigger avatar, etc.
