Advertisers want to buy text links - What is reasonable to quote? Is PayPal okay?

Hi,

I've just started to get requests from potential advertisers wanting to buy or inquiring about text links on my sites. I have absolutely no idea what to quote them or how it is usually charged. What is generally reasonable? $1? $5? $10? Are prices per month or one time? Is PayPal acceptable?

I'd appreciate hearing what others do in this situation as I've never charged for advertising before and don't know the general scale.

Thanks!

Usually its between $2-$5 and links are so called permanent (maybe a year) for SEO purposes. Lot of them are scam as they do not pay and do not answer even emails so you will keep the link few weeks, spent your time sending emails and then remove it.

Thanks for responding. Couldn't you charge them via PayPal first, and then put their link on your site once they've paid? So a one-time payment of $2-5 for a year is reasonable? Seems weird charging someone only $2 for an entire year!

I'd go high and see if they bite, if they don't you can always lower it. The price really depends on the traffic levels more then anything.

Wouldn't it be better to just put adSense in the spot instead of a $2/year text link? In a year, adSense would make more in that spot than that paid text link. What is the advantage in this case of adding someone's link?
