I'm looking to monetize my website through means of ad revenue to aid with my web hosting bill. Two kinds of advertising I am looking at is banner ads through adsense and contextual advertising. I have a Google adsense account at the moment but haven't placed advertisements on my page as of yet. What is the best advertiser to go through for both contextual advertisements and banners/other ads? I checked intellitxt's website out for contextual advertising but can't seem where to find out how to sign up. I want to exclude mature ads from being displayed on my website since it could gain visitors of any age and I don't want anything inappropriate to be displayed. Also is there an estimate on how much can be made per month through means of ad revenue? Thank you to anyone that may be able to offer advice.

There isn't necessarily one answer to most of your questions. If you want to exclude mature content AdSense is probably fine. They shouldn't allow adult content.

How much you can make is dependent on so many factors, the topic of your site, how well you blend the ads into your site, how much traffic you can get, etc.

You'll likely make more money if you can build a popular site and then sell ads directly. Of course that takes more time since you'll need the traffic first.

The majority make very little with AdSense, but there are some great success stories of people who can now retire. The big money won't come easy. It really is a lot of work and will take a good deal of experimenting to figure out which ads work best where.

Why not just try AdSense and see what happens. Set up channels in your AdSense account so you can get a better understanding of which ads are working and which aren't. I think most people prefer AdSense over other contextual advertising networks, but there are other networks and people who will prefer them.
