Just wondering if you click through to peoples adSense now and then just to help them out? I can honestly say I have only clicked an adSense ad about three times total and just wondering if people ever click just to help people out when they like a website?

If I know the person I will click them just to be nice. Normally, if I'm just surfing the web I wont click. Just because I find them annoying and stupid.

When you click someone's AdSense ad just to help them out you're also stealing money from the person who placed the ad. How would you feel if you were using AdWords and found out you were paying for worthless clicks where people were clicking your ad so their friends could make money.

By the way search engines have a name for it. It's called click fraud.

Hello,

But, if they asked me to help them out who cares? I mean 9 out of 10 people have ad on their website in order to make money. It's their fault in the end for having the ads up their and losing money in the end. If they wanted to keep their money then they wouldn't have added ads to their website - PERIOD. But, that's just how I see it

The person who's paying for the ad did not ask you to help them out. The person collecting the money did.

I think you're misunderstanding how the ads work. The site displaying them isn't paying for the ads. Someone else is. The site with the ads is collecting money from the person who pays for the ad.

It's called click fraud and it can get the person displaying that ad thrown out of the AdSense program.

Clicking on somebody's ad to be nice means that the person will get about 50% of what the other individual is paying for those ads gets, and Google gets the other portion. If I want to help somebody I don't do it by screwing somebody else.

I can honestly say that I've never clicked on a Google ad from someones webpage. Maybe 2-3 times tops ever have I clicked on the ones to the right after doing a google search for something, but I'm pretty sure that all revenue from those clicks goes straight to Google.

If you are clicking just to help them out you are ruining business for everyone. I will click an adsense ad if it is a useful link to what I am looking for. Sometimes after years of being on the web I tend to skip over ads but in all fairness if they are helpful then there is no reason why I shouldn't click through and see their page or product.

Nope, only if it's an ad I'm truly interested in seeing.

for the longest time, i wouldn't click on the ads but would sometimes open up a new tab and type in the url for where it was pointing to.

i've since changed that. i'm a believer in karma - i click on ads that i am interested in, in hopes that someday someone might do the same with ads i'm displaying.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with clicking on an ad if you're interested in it. It's when you click knowing in advance you have no interest and are just trying to get the publisher some money.

jacob I do copy and paste sometimes when I'm working and am only looking at an ad to learn more about things like how well the ad copy matches the landing page and things like that. I figure in those case I'm not really visiting the site because I'm interested in their product and shouldn't be costing them any money.

My 2 cents is it don't matter weather you click or not, If you don't profit then there is no damage done or intent to defraud.

Ed that makes no sense. The person clicking isn't making any money from the click or spending money for the click.

It's very simple. If you're clicking on an ad just so the site displaying the ad can make money, and if you know in advance of clicking you have no interest at all in the ad, then you're guilty of click fraud. It's pretty much the definition of click fraud. You can try to justify it anyway you want, but it's still click fraud.

Yep, I keep clicking on everyones ads because I want them all to make money, I'm not interested in the advertisers offerings as long as the money goes to the site owners and Google, that's the main thing.

NO, completely ignore the above statement. I would only ever click an ad if I am interested in what the ad offers. Thats the point of ads. If people click on the ads just because they want to help the site owner then that helps to destroy the point of what the ads are on the site for in the first place.

I'll admit I have done it before. If I come across a very helpful blog from an individual or something I admit have clicked on an ad just to kind of say thanks. I realize this isn't exactly right, and comes at the cost of the advertiser, but I usually try to click on one from a big name company, who won't even notice the slight extra cost. I know it isn't exactly right, but that doesn't mean I haven't done it.
