Beginning Webmaster Needs Help, Money Ideas Needed

Hi you guys, great forum here, I like it.
I do need a little help or nudging along... I got my degree in Computer Science and now I'm kinda stuck with no income.
I thought I'd study webdesign since I had some computer background. I like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, and PHP.
Anyway, I would like to make a little bit of money, maybe with the adsense, and members...
**********
What are some good money-making ideas?
Employment website? (I tried a couple free ones, they were bad)
- PHPEmployment is a free php employment-seeking website. It sucked.
Dating site? (There's too many already?)
I can also learn other things, advertising, etc...
**********
Thank you for any ideas!

Make sure you sign up for google Adsense
https://www.google.com/adsense/
They deposit a check in my bank account every month from my websites never late and no excuses
Plus http://co.cc "No I don't own them" will give you up to 100 Domain Names if you donate 10 bucks .
They work just like .com or .net set them up with dns or A records to your host .
With a lot of free webspace out there build many types of sites let them link to each other Don't limit your self to one site.
Later if you have a few that catch on you can always upgrade to paid hosting "Which of course is better" but for now don't spend your money on some Dedicated Servers because of the bandwidth you would do better spending the money on advertising.
I have had luck using printed ads Newspapers, swap shop papers, business cards, stuff like that. Banners and the like are not even looked at "When was the last time you clicked a banner??"
Just my 2 cents

I have lots of different website scripts which you can upload and have a shot at making some money of them. Theres no harm in trying even if they do fail.

Ok cool. Yeah I already applied to adsense, but the site wasn't done and they told me that I had to resubmit.
So I'll put up a site now maybe on izfree.com or something that is free, and try again.
Hmm what is even a good site to throw up as a beginner and to get my adsense???
Thx.

I'm trying not to step over the line Here
Try one of your job sites "I have 2" I use indeed.com "No I don't own them either" for a job search engine "I signed up with them as a publisher" So all the google ads on those sites are about jobs . People are there looking for jobs some of those clicks a worth a buck
Build one about debt relief "Everybody is in debt" Google up some free reports on "debt relief" for content. Google should have some great ads on money lenders
Then try a few cheap print ads "Don't advertise on the internet" you will be advertising to the advertisers . Get your words to the guy sitting on the couch and his wife on the home computer
I can sit right here and run ads all over the country "Print Ads" and some as cheap as 15 bucks for thousands to see. Because never forget your website no matter how good it looks is nothing but a speck on somebody's hard drive. Your mission is to drag people there.

Hi OleTom,
I'm curious, about how much per click do you get from indeed.com? I've been thinking about selling ad spots for job postings but, using something like that could be a way for me to test market first.
Thanks

It's as simple as picking out a niche that you like the most and work on it passionately. There's no alternative to time, effort, content and genuine link exchanges

Do you mean that you already know these languages or that you're thinking about learning them?
If you know PHP and MySQL I'd be interested - I've had an idea for a site for ages (topic is secret for now) which I can't build because my brain won't hold onto any new facts at the mo (perhaps due to being pregnant) and I can't get the hang of PHP, although I know a bit about it. I've been thinking about teaming up with someone studenty who knows PHP who can help me build the site as a joint venture -
I would, for example, pay for the domain and hosting, do the design, code in html, css, do images and so on, someone else do the backend of php and database work for a 50/50 split on revenue. Just an idea.

you have to first justify if you just want a passive income or a full time income. You also need to determine how much effort you will really put into this kind of thing

So the moral is, if you want a good job and good pay, don't do Computer Sciences! Strange. Another moral is - I remember a compsci grad asking me to build her website, and explaining to me that she doesn't know much about computers or the internet. Exactly how are they graduating with a degree of that name?
Well, here's some nudging.
1. don't do Google Adsense first - leave it till later - when you have learned how to make money properly - Google adsense can cause you to underexploit your web space by as much as 90% less. i.e. you'll make only 10% of the possible money.
2, 3, 4, 5, 6... all the way to 4000. Go to the affiliate section and read a few things in there, and try and research the affiliate networks ad-revenue zone, because it's worth more than Google and all google's allies/competitors, and it's growing faster than they ever have. That's where the money is. If you want any of it, better go there. Here's a quote from an article I wrote about it recently:
Quote:
Affiliate networks, "etc"
The term "affiliate network" means: website where you can join 100s, often 1000s of "affiliate programmes" of different traders who sell goods online. For me the term "affiliate network" means more than that. There are many many networks out there selling utter rubbish, largely ebooks about how to make money from affiliate networks! These are nothing to do with REAL affiliate networks. To me when I say "affiliate network" I only mean "real affiliate network". Real affiliate networks are sites where, for example, Walmart can agree to pay you to advertise their products. In other words big, rich, real world traders line up to pay people like me, to sell goods for them via the web, on my own websites. There are still 100s of affiliate networks which ARE real, although globally, in the English-speaking commercial world, there are only up to a dozen or so which are the major networks and cover the vast majority of tech-literate giant retailers. I will provide a full named list when I have completed research I am doing on this matter, but the major networks I know who provide a lot of UK money include Commission Junction, Affiliate Window, Tradedoubler.
Affiliate networks pay very good money to you for each sale that you make for a company. Companies pay the networks £1000s per month to be allowed the privelege of talking to you, and then on top of that they pay out commissions to you which make the usual forms of "monetizing your site" seem very weak indeed - frequently people sell "clicks" - they go to pay per click networks and get paid for each click that sends someone away from their site.
Affiliate networks don't do that - they pay per performance - if you sell £1000 of goods, you could see a nice £100 commission from many sites. Ironically an estate agent will still try and pay you £2 for a lead that could earn them a £15000 commission from a property owner! That will change, of course, if they want to sell houses on our turf. Otherwise we'll just make our own estate agents online! The affiliate sector has been growing at a rate much faster, overall, when you factor in the recent global market crashes, than Google and the big mainstream competitors of Google whose names are known to all. The affiliate sector is, collectively, much bigger than those known names. We are just about the most profitable subsector of any capitalist endeavour on this planet currently, above all if you factor in longterm security. I can't say more than that, really, can I?
The "etc" part of the title refers to the fact that as well as affiliate networks, there are, as I said, pay per click networks - these DO PAY YOU, and are SOMETIMES legitimate. Google Adsense is a good mainstream all-purpose pay per click network and I wouldn't knock it, even if I personally feel I can make more money from Google's Affiliate Network.
The crap stuff - what to avoid
What you will find when you hunt for payers is that there are countless other networks and where Google Adsense pays what to me is already 20 to 80% max of what my clicks get if they are monetized by a performance algorithm instead of an arbitrary bid, those crap networks pay about 1% and can drop even lower than that. I won't name any of them. In time I'll just make a full list of everything that I know is good, and you can choose from that, and if you find others which are not on my lists but which are good, I can add those, once you let me know.

That's going to be a serious problem. In that - why did you submit it if it "wasn't done"? Part of me weeps at the way the world works, but hey. I've got my machines, eh?
So Netresult, what you wanna do is get a bit further into actually making stuff before you try and cash in. It's like putting on your underwear before your clothes. Apart from a few obvious outliers, generally underwear is worn inside. Have something to sell before trying to play the role of salesman.
