I was taking a reading somewhere and spotted that during the first couple of hours of activity for UK internet users on a monday, way way more men shop for clothes than women... that's monday morning. Interesting. It'd be worth doing a full study for all times of day. I probably can gather the data retrospecitvely - no doubt I can look back across many days and find more right now...
well here's some rough basics drawn out of a sample of 2 weeks data...
1. women's jewellery is almost twice as popular as men's shirts
2. perhaps over 50 times as much lingerie (in itemcount terms) are sold than men's shirts, from day to day
3. the shoe market could be in wide decline, but i don't have enough data yet - i will find out soon, however, through setting up some experiments to find out more useful data
4. the order of most popular clothes sold on the web COULD be something like... lingerie (by a huge lead), coats, childrenswear (at the same level), jewels, shirts, shoes
seems that shirts and shoes really are left until last. Interesting. Still, the data is a small sample and I need to actually test other chunks of time, independently, and in conjunction, and measure other products and subjects... but those are the initial results, and you have to start with initial results. That's how experimentation works.
