Hi,

My site is http://victoriaanndesign.net. I don't have a massive following I get about 30-40 visitors each day. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I've been asked if I can place a text link advert on my site. This came out of the blue I wasn't thinking about going down that line at least not yet, but it seems like a good thing to get into.

My questions are:

  • What do people charge?
  • What terms do you have?
  • Is there a contract?
  • Where on my site would I be best placing the ad? In content or in sidebar?

Is there anything else I should know that I don't?

Thanks everyone it would be great to get some answers.

Vicki

What does that mean? You think it's junk email? I'm sure it's not as I replied to him to see what kind of terms he expects and he replied very quickly and seriously.

Thanks.

Maybe instead of charging do a banner exchange since your site only get 30 or 40 visitors a day a banner exchange may generate more traffic to your site.

Also when i looked at your site with a 800 x 600 screen resolution your header and footer does not go all the way to the right side of the page.

Thanks for the tips, I had thought about a banner exchange. Maybe I should consider it. I hadn't realised my site doesn't display properly in 800x600 I'll have to look into it.

did the email come from somebody who said
Quote:
Hi [insert name used on the domain registration]

I work for Linkstar, a leading broker of online advertising, dealing with many thousands of independent webmasters worldwide.
I've had a look at [insert hostname] and think that it would be a good match for our client, whose target demographic is similar to your own. We're working on their behalf to acquire advertising from quality websites such as your own.

By some strange chance?

BTW I've had one for almost every hostname I own. INCLUDING several that are not, and have never been live.

Ok thanks for the links. This is the email I received:

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well.

After looking around your site, I wonder if you would be interested in letting the web solutions company I am working for sponsor a listing on your site. We are interested in a HTML text listing and thought that since we specialize in hosted exchange and web hosting solutions it would be a good fit for your site.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Kind Regards,

You can safely ignore everything that arrives in your mail box "out of the blue"

There are no
"millions of dollars in a dormant [insert country] bank account",
no
"job opportunity for upstanding person with Internet access"
and no
"You site will be perfect match for client site"

If YOU didn't ask for the message; it's junk.
