I run a few different sites around revision, and was wondering what is the best way to monetize these?

Up until now they don't make money as they was set-up just as a revision guide, but now it would be nice to earn a bit of money, so what would you do?

adsense is one of the first ones people try. try several ad networks. discard the ones which does not work. If you need here are some ad networks webcosmoforums.com/make-money-online/12584-list-ad-networks-affiliate-programs.html

Thanks for the reply,

I wasnt sure about using adsense as before i have had adult links come up, which obviously wouldnt be suitable on a site targeted to children.

I'd of thought you'd make more by affiliate sales from course books than Adsense. Look at book publishers/distributors/retailers and see what percentage they're offering for referrals. You could start doing book reviews on your website (in fact, you could let your users review and rate the books).

Also, and this is something I was toying with myself, if your users are studying for exams, you might want to start a directory of teachers, since students often want to pay for a few 1:1 lessons a few weeks before exams. Teachers could pay a one time fee, like 5€, to put a profile up with their general location. The students could pay a 5€ fee to get permission access the teachers' contact info. A one-time fee is necessary, because once they've met, they'll just cut you out of any subscription deal you had.

The other thing you might want to look at is a subscription fee to access some learning materials, such as PDFs, videos or powerpoints.

You might wish to look into using something like embedded streaming video chat (Eg Userplane), so that teachers could deliver 'one-to-many' support lessons directly from the site.

Finally, most schools now have interactive whiteboards. Perhaps you can target teachers by supplying downloadable whiteboard resources (Eg. interactive flash), or lesson plans based on the curriculum.

If anyone else has ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Chianti had given some very good examples of the type of products you can sell along with the content. I would like to add a crucial marketing point...that is to sell an enhanced revision content that is far more valuable than what you've already published on your site...If they like the revision content on your site, it is likely they wouldn't want to miss the `cream' of your content, if you get what I mean.... Its what we call an `upsell' if you like....my 2 cents
