Hi, I'm new to this. I have a domain that generates about 60 uniques per month, parked with sedo. I wonder if it's worth developing into an affiliate site? It's about new marine electronics gadget (was new when I registered it in 2008).

I thought so. The thing is that I looked in CJ and I couldn't find any advertisers in the category that the name is related to (marine AIS receivers). I'm very knowledgeable in this field, should i start a blog or there's just not enough interest in this topic and I should forget about this domain and think of some other niche?
Sorry if my questions are naive or stupid. Like I said earlier I'm knew to this. Been going to sea for too long and probably lost touch with the latest trends or reality

The things you are knowledgeable in ARE what you should be blogging about. Just because Commision Junction have no advertiser for that marketplace (it's NOT a "niche") probably reflects the better judgment of the advertiser rather than a lack of advertisers.

Start the website and establish yourself (and the site) as an authority, if not THE authority on the subject.
Advertising can follow after you and your site are established.

And NO! you do NOT need a "keyword domain name".

Thank you for your advise. But what I don't get is this. My traffic being what it is isn't it a good indicator that my subject is of no interest to anybody besides a few professionals. I mean even if I know anything and everything about the subject and nobody cares about it isn't it waste of time and money to develop it knowing beforehand that there's just not enough potential customers to make it profitable?
My domain name is a keyword domain name (marineais.com)

Go here: ( google keyword tool )

https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeti...AS#search.none

And enter a few keyword to do with your subject matter.

It should give you an indication of what people search for in your area and what you can focus on.

Make up as many keywords / phrases as you can and look about.

For example, for marine AIS receivers theres 70 global searches a month for it..
HOWEVER!
For marine electronics theres more.. ( 40,500 ) a month..

So have a look about.. It will help you target these users.

So you think that it's possible to sell marine electronics or something else related to it with a specific domain name like mine? I mean it won't look odd selling say VHF radios on a site that says marine ais?

11 years ago the word google meant nothing, they get quite a few unique visitors every month.

It's a parked hostname at sedo with ads on it, why and how exactly would you expect it to get traffic???

Zero content, zero promotion what would you expect?
Or did you fall for the "parked keyword domains earning mega bucks by magic"?

As for advertisers, do a few Google searches for the "marine AIS" and related phrases and you will see that there are certainly plenty of Adwords users bidding on the phrases.

Keyword domains mean nothing but trouble,

Does Amazon sound "odd" selling Books, Tvs, Pans, Plates, IPods, CDs, DVDs, Shavers, Flowers, Battery Drills, Electric Shavers, Chemical Toilets, Tents, etc, etc, etc?

Forget this stupid idea of a "related domain name" is essential!

No, they sell all the stuff you would need if you wanted to go on a jungle adventure, although they should probably drop sales of tv's and electric shavers.

just start a blog about what you know. do some seo. build links. and if your blog is interesting, it should work. I started my blog about 2 months ago and now getting about 800 uniques per month. just making about $1 per day from adsense but I think it's a good start.
