Hi, everybody. I wonder if there's any potential to start a targeted free classifieds site. Something like say autotrader etc but specific to a particular car model or price range. I'm using cars just as an example it could be anything. Using the mentioned example. If i want to buy a toyota why can't I just go to a site that just has used toyotas? or if i know that I can't afford to pay more than 10k for a truck my first choice would be to check something like cheaptrucks.xxx if there was one.
I wonder if anybody tried something like this or if it's just a dead end idea?

Yes, targeted classified site is good idea.. but you will attract much more users to your site to register and place their listings if you include a wide range of listings..

I agree, but my main concern is that if i do that I'll be competing with the heavy weights who have been doing it for years. I mean what chance do I have against autotrader or craigslist? Besides I rally think (maybe mistakenly) that there's a demand for specialised classifieds. After all don't we have Toyota, Ford and so on dealerships that only sell their respective brands. Payless shoes are still in business even though Wallmart is in every town. How come we rarely see that on line?

Well judging by the response it's not bright idea. I don't get what's exactly wrong with it though?
