It's an interesting question. I read these three blogs regularly, and they've been having a wide-spread conversation about the question, the reputation of the industry as a whole, and the ethics behind it.

I'm starting to comment on the blogs themselves, and you should, too, after having a look. But don't hesitate to share your thoughts here, as well.

IMHO SEO is already regulated and dying a slow death. Google regulates it, and their requirement for good content is slowly weeding out the sites that have traditionally depended on outdated SEO techniques.

Eventually you'll have what might be termed "Site Traffic Developers" or "Targeted Web Traffic Specialists" (or some other silly name). The bigger players have already arrived at the conclusion the mass web market will eventually reach: "SO WHAT if I have a high ranking or high traffic - no one is buying anything!"

It's all about bringing in highly targeted site visitors who will react to the site's message and take action in favor of the site owner.

If you read the blogs, you might understand.

If I had my way, people who did stupid unrelated and pointless link exchanges would wake up one morning and discover they were all on pages 200+ for their keywords

Targeted Worldwide Internet Traffic Specialists could work too.

Hmmmm...actually, let's go with that. There's a Monty Python sketch waiting to happen, SEO-style.

Site Traffic Developers spreadin' roun' da net like an STD?

Bigiddy-up yaself for tha link, bro.

Ghetto talk is so much fun. I'm wearing a tie and jacket today, fresh pressed silk pants, all that. The company has an important client coming in for a meeting. Y'all don't know how much I want to talk like that in the meeting. I'm a white guy, of Russian origin, and dressed like there's a wedding or a funeral, so it cracks me up how well the talk doesn't fit.

On that note, does anyone think Ludacris is worried his name will give people the impression that rappers don't know how to spell?

The SEO industry is regulated, like Round Sponge Square Pants says. Mostly by Google, but apparently my blog post was too long and boring, because nobody is mentioning an important fact: it's also regulated by government.

Say you take your brand spanking new web site that you paid someone $500 to find a template and update in Word, and bring it to a black hat SEO? You'll get a big surge of traffic for a few weeks, and then none at all from Big Daddy G. So you join a forum like this, ask what's up, and someone like Adam will say "Well those hidden links to www.Porn-Is-Great.com and www.Spam-Google-Better.com and www.----.com just aren't helping you."

Then you sue the SEO's round pants off.

So we're talking about Targeted Web Analyst Traffic Specialists?

Could this be related to the A.N.U.S. project in some way?

Just let your nose be your guide. I'd say more, but someone would slap me.
