Im currently in the process of developing a new website and domain, what are the best ways of getting the site ranked well with google?

I've heard different oppinions about linking to other sites, some say its good to link and others say its bad, I just need an honest opinion.
Where do people go to get links, I would prefer 1 way links to be honest but dont want to join any link farms.

I've heard of people using articles and forums to promote their websites but not sure how this works, do you write a big article about your website and publish it on the net?

At the end of the day Im looking for new visitors to my site, I like to think / hope the content of the site will keep bringing people back.

The sites not quite ready but hopefully will be in a few days time (so my programmer says) so I'll post the url, its www.reverseabid.co.uk

Online marketing is the same as offline marketing. You build something unique that people want to visit and use, you tell the right people, and you'll be fine.

As of right now, it's hard to tell because your particular site isn't ready.
