I get traffic from StumbleUpon. But I don't use it for traffic.

Why? Because that wasn't the purpose of the site. The site was built for people to share quality sites for other people. It just turned into a mass submission service for the terminally stupid.

These sites and a lot of good bookmarking and social/business network sites does produce a lot of traffic.

But you should utilize this in an ethical manner. If not, you may get banned, lose traffic and tagged with a bad rep.

From Wikipedia: (Reference link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_bookmarking ) Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In a social bookmarking system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, but depending on the service's features, may be saved privately, shared only with specific people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of publicness and privateness. The allowed people can usually view these bookmarks chronologically, by category or tags, via a search engine, or even randomly.

Most social bookmark services encourage users to organize their bookmarks with informal tags instead of the traditional browser-based system of folders, although some services feature categories/folders or a combination of folders and tags. They also enable viewing bookmarks associated with a chosen tag, and include information about the number of users who have bookmarked them. Some social bookmarking services also draw inferences from the relationship of tags to create clusters of tags or bookmarks.

Many social bookmarking services provide web feeds for their lists of bookmarks, including lists organized by tags. This allows subscribers to become aware of new bookmarks as they are saved, shared, and tagged by other users.

As these services have matured and grown more popular, they have added extra features such as ratings and comments on bookmarks, the ability to import and export bookmarks from browsers, emailing of bookmarks, web annotation, and groups or other social network features.
Social Bookmarking was (NOT) intended for mass marketing campaigns..... All I see happening in the near future once all these Book Marking businesses become Saturated with Mass Markings for the purpose of increased LP / PR is a Global Search Engine Algorithm Redesign to either Discredit Bookmarking sites as referencing sources that count towards the overall ranking equation Or The links them self will be red flagged & labeled the same as Link Farms / Web Rings / FFA's / Etc....

At first, it may seem like a good idea to generate fast / mass recognition to yourself or your client, However what some fail to think about is the long term results & impact it will have down the road.

BlackHat SEO techniques are resposable for the Devaluing of reliable resources on a Global level, While Whitehat SEO techniques help to maintain the value of whats left & sets new standards. Which one are you?

Now this is some very good advice, and people should take this to heart. By spamming Social Media all to **** a person is shooting themself in the foot with a very slow bullet.
