I think you'll have a better chance of getting people to participate if you tell us all the rules and prizes for the contests first.

The days of "SEO contests" have well and truly gone, and they have joined the realms of "pixel sites" and "bid directories".

Just another marketing idea that was ok for the first few times, after that it's just left to the stragglers to drag out their death throes in the vain hope of scratching a few coppers from an empty pot.

No i want to test the seo of the web as i am fead up of the so called seo emails and web sites that say they can do so much when you look at there web sites it has no pr and there main keywords rank very low. i no expert on seo but i do all mine my self and this is was not meant to be a scam to make money for me as it would cost me 500 bucks for the winner plus the web site to the winner.

I no pr means nothing and so does alaxa rank

Oh well was a thought i forget it then as i did not no there has been lots of contests for this i no of a few.

I didn't think this was a scam. If I'm understanding right you want to test SEOs on how well they can do something and then award the winner $500. Is that right?

All I was saying was you'll get more people here and elsewhere involved if you tell us the details instead of asking us for ideas. If I was going to spend time thinking of ideas for a contest I would probably host the contest myself.

I think Chris is right that contests have been done enough times where people are less interested in them. The first contest was exciting to people, the second a little less exciting, and the third a little less than that.

I think you can still come up with something that will make people want to join, but you'll have to push it further than the last contest.

I'm not sure exactly what that would be, but I would suggest testing people on as many aspects as you can about what an SEO does. I would also look to get some well known names in the industry to support you and act as judges of some sort since they'll add legitimacy to your contest.

I think running a contest can still be successful for both you and the people who enter, but I think it will be a lot of work to set up and promote at this point.

PR is a mesure of your link popularity and the more PR you have the more your site will get crawled.

Alexa Rank is an indication (rough as it may be) of the ammount of traffic your site gets.

I wouldn't say that they mean nothing, that's a little harsh.

Nope on both,

Toolbar PR is simply a inaccurate exported value based on the real PR value of the links.

It isn't the PR that gets the pages crawled. It's the links that create the PR that govern crawl schedules.

Nope!

it's an indicator of the amount of traffic that people (or bots) browsing with the Alexa toolbar installed send to your site, and as Alexa toolbar users are a minute percentage of real visitors, the value is so unrepresentative of overall traffic it renders it useless.

from stats on various sites I have. Alexa toolbar users are less than 0.5% of overall visitors

Agree, "Toolbar PR is simply a inaccurate exported value based on the real PR value of the links."

- PR toolbar is just an indicator the real PR is internal and Google only knows...

While alexa ranking is also an indicator of visits but it is manipulated as they say it was...
