Sure you can, but it won't do you a bit of good.
Search engine referral traffic <> PageRank. Internal PageRank is one of over 100 factors.

That's directly from a Googler. Read it, learn it, understand it letter-to-letter, and live by it.

The best and easiest way to increase your page rank is to impress people with your blog. These people will recommend you to others, link to you, send you traffic, and, as a side effect, raise your pr.

Example: I shot some portraits a year ago, and the lighting was too harsh. I had to figure out how to soften things in Photoshop, and once I did, I wrote an article about it. Somebody dropped a link in this thread; I don't use Flickr, but I noticed people coming to my site from that link in my server logs.
Write/blog about things that interest you, be involved with people who share your interest, and you won't have to worry about thousands of directories and all that.

Sure, you can do it. For me and for everyone - the best ways to raise a website PR are:
1. Post newsgroups
2. Press releases
3. Email to VIPs
4. Article submission
5. Reciprocal Links
6. Forum Posting
7. Directory submission
8. Tell everyone with whom you communicate
9. Post adds to free advertising website
10. Blogging
For me the best one is Forum Posting.

Read Forrest's last post. Good content, shared with the right people, has a way of generating organic links and traffic that mitigate any potential effects caused by putting all your eggs in the search engine basket.

Since PR is more in link building... I guess you must improve your link popularity then

Nobody exactly know how to raise PR. Link building is 50%, but in my practice i used to have client with website with only 10 back links and PR5 !!!!

...or it could be yet another example of how absolutely useless the little green bar and backlink checking are at establishing anything, since PR can be faked, toolbar PR is updated infrequently at best and is not used in the Google algo, iand not all backlinks show up publicly.

John, that's one of the TV/DVD Addicts. That's all you'll ever get out of them. Hirst and I have been forced to debunk in at least half the threads they "post" in because all they ever say is "get good links", "get inbound links", "get quality inbound links", links, links, links, ENOUGH WITH THE FRIGGIN' LINKS ALREADY!

What you could say instead of "get linkz" is where and how to get them??? Quality links don't just grow on trees, so from where do you just get them?

mhaye_01: I didn't say you "specifically" were responsible for all the bad TV Addicts advice. I just said that you and the other TV Addicts types all say the same thing (I'm still not convinced you're not all one person, by the way).
It's the same tired old game. You set up blogs. You link to different " TV Shows on DVD". You look for "relevant link exchanges". And every time you post something, it's about links, links, links. Or..."optimize for Google" Or..."optimize for Yahoo!"
Post something useful, for crying out loud.

I received some great advice from this thread a while back:
http://www.webmaster-talk.com/miscel...ity-links.html
Not sure if all the advice will apply to your situation, but it helped me out greatly.
