Hi guys

I have a few queries about sitemaps, when doing a sitemap should i just map the important pages within mysite ? the reason i say this, is i have a forum and when i use my sitemap creator it trys to follow every single thread, is it really neccessary to map all the threads on my forum ?

I have my doubts a sitemap with 100,000+ links in it will be processed correctly? I think I remember somewhere it should be limited to 1,000 per XML?

In any case if the engines can crawl your pages and find the html links you shouldn't need a map for them?

sitemaps are useful in a site with deep linking... use sitemaps when urls at your site are not crawled and when the url are hidden deep insdie your site directory

If your site was built correctly, i.e., it's crawler-friendly, you certainly don't need a Sitemap....

Sitemap helps visitors and search engine bots find pages on the site. It can be beneficial to SEO because it improves the site by making sure that all the pages can be found. A sitemap page helps to boost the crawling speed of documents at a website. They do influence the crawl speed, which gives the documents a better chance of receiving boosts for fresh content or relevant content to a searcher’s query.

From article about sitemaps, part about XML sitemaps:

Max 50.000 urls per XML sitemap file.
Possible to link 1000 XML sitemaps using a sitemap index file.
