Hi,
Well, the simplest way is to go to addthis.com and simply create html code for their program, cut and paste it onto your website and voila!
Remember though, your site needs to be worthy of bookmarking!

I'm going to give one example of social bookmarking just for you. this if for del.icio.us
- go to del.icio.us
- register
- install the "tag" button for the browser (now you are ready to social bookmark blog posts)
- go to the site or blog you want to social bookmark
- choose any post that you like
- click on its page
- now click "tag this" button on the browser
- fill up the textboxes that pops-up on the window
- then save/send/tag whatever it is
- that's all
hope you understand it

There are lots and lots of social bookmarking sites. Register on the popular ones like stumbleupon, del.ico.us, technorati, furl etc. Submit your links. Pray that you get some traffic from those sites.

Those social bookmarking sites mentioned in the post above are great for getting traffic. But it won't help with getting any search engine traffic as almost all those social bookmarking sites use the "nofollow" tag on hotlinks.

Just look for social bookmarking sites, then register.. You will need to fill up their registration form. After that, you will give the necessary information of your post such as URL, title and description... That's it...

The best way to market yourself and your site through social media is to find the communities that are most likely to enjoy your content and then become part of that community.
When I say become part of that community I mean becoming a valuable member of that community. Submit other people's content that you find interesting and think the community will find interesting too.
Network with other people who share common interests and seem to post similar content as you do.
As you build a valuable profile and generate more friends people will take notice and visit your content and submit it. By being part of the community you'll also begin to understand the type of content the community likes and you can tailor your own content so it's more likely to get submitted.
For example Digg is pro Apple, pro Linux, and anti Microsoft. If you write a post describing how wonderful Windows is as an operating system it's less like to go popular on Digg than if you wrote the same post describing how wonderful OS X or Ubunto is as an operating system.
If you can develop content that goes popular on a social media site you'll get a lot of traffic in a short period of time. The majority of that traffic will leave quickly, though it depends a little on the site and your content. However many of the people who visited will go on to subscribe to your blog or link to your content.
The links will usually help your content in search engine results and lead to more popular social media stories and more links.

I highly recommend the AddThis social bookmarking button - it allows visitors to submit your content to about 15 different social bookmarking sites including Stumble, Digg and Del.icio.us.

I've been using AddThis at your recommendation; the one on their blog is much nicer. I need to figure out how to move it within a post, but it's pretty slick. And people have been using it. I don't have an account on most of the networks, and I'm not going to change that just to build traffic ... but making it easier for people to vote for me is a good thing.
Speaking of social media, I found this in my logs.

Social Bookmarking is only used for generating traffic only. There is no other use for social bookmarking

So no one can actually find use in the site. I use a site like del.icio.us all the time to store bookmarks. There's only so many you can place in your browser before it gets unwieldy.
If you're talking about social bookmarking in terms of marketing only you have a very narrow view. The direct traffic you might get from a social bookmarking site is probably the least effective part of social media marketing.

Unless I'm missing something - and that's entirely possible, it's happened before and I'm lucky Whym has saved my neck! - their statistics are kind of lacking... I can see how many people 'bookmarked' each of my posts within a given time period, but not where. I ran across another free widget that breaks your 'social' links out, if anyone else out there wants to know.

Traffic is one thing. Useful traffic is another. If you submit content that the community doesn't like your traffic will be very short lived. Your stats may look good, but it was useless traffic.
You can also damage your own reputation by constantly submitting your own content. Once in awhile I think it's fine to submit something you honestly think the community will enjoy, but if you only submit your own content you do yourself more harm than good.

While Social Bookmarking may help drive some traffic to your site, it actually has very little to do with SEO. If you want to work on improving your search engine rankings, I wouldn't put too much focus on social bookmarking.

James often the traffic that visits through social media sites later goes on to link to your content so it can be an effective way to build links.
I think on average content that reaches the home page of Digg gets about 130 links. It can obviously much more. That's why people want to market through social media. They see it as a quicker way to build links.
You can also network with other people on social media sites. They are about community. It's not all that much different from networking through a forum.

I guess I view this more as a form of SMO rather than SEO, as two separate portions of internet marketing. While bookmarks may indirectly affect SEO in the long run (due to link increases, and the chance of having others link to you), the search engines still place value on the quality of inbound links, and the links coming directly from the bookmarking sites aren’t that high quality.

No disagreements here, social bookmarking is just one of many ways to network with people that have similar interests as you, and learn more about what others have to offer .

That's true James. It wouldn't necessarily be seo except in the sense of seeing it as an indirect way to build links and build relationships with people who may link to you, etc.
One of the reasons people like the links that may eventually come from social media is they're going to be very natural. Since it's other people linking to you how they wish the anchor text is mixed and the links will come from a variety of different sites.
I think the best way to view it though is the community building. The same way people will click on the link in your sig they'll click on the link in your profile. It's also a good way to build your brand. Maybe your site doesn't have a lot of visibility. Sites like Digg and StumbleUpon, etc do have a lot of visibility. It's possible your profile on the social media site could rank well for some keywords because it can ride the authority of social media site.
If you go to Google and search for 'my del.icio.us profile' (with ot without quotes) my profile ranks first. I generally link to it in my weekly roundup post. It's certainly not a great phrase to rank for and it wasn't intentional on my part, but I doubt if I pointed those same links to a page on my site that my page would rank #1.
You could build links towards your profiles that get them to rank well for phrases your site just can't rank for at the moment.
