I was told I posted this in the wrong forum last time... so if that is true again, please let me know!

I have a new website, http://www.everybodysbestfriend.com and I am trying to figure out what I should expect as far as how many visitors are normal on a given day. I have been promoting the site naturally with backlinks, content, and Adwords... however since I don't sell anything, I don't want to spend a lot of money on the marketing aspect. How long does it typically take a website to get on it's feet and rolling?

That depends on what you mean by feet and rolling What are your goals?

Traffic will be probably be a key to your goals, whatever they are. SEO can play a part in that, but something more important is public interest in the subject of your site, and that's something I'd find hard to predict.

If you just want a regular stream of free traffic from seach engines, it might take 6 months to a year, I would guess - but that depends on many things.

I would add to your description and keywords: k9, canine, kennel, paws and others dog related words first
and then start looking for directories like ours that have Animals and Pets Categories

Thanks, that is good advice. I have added it to a couple of free directories, a few natural link's from more related websites as well. Honestly I'm surprised at how much traffic I am generating at this point. About 40 unique visitors per day, and it's only 4 days old. I am buying about 15 of those from Adwords and Yahoo. So I'm surprised that others are finding it on their own at all at this point!

I think your site will do better if you use wider spectrum in your description:

Provides information for pets owners about dog breeds with canine pictures, puppies training tips and dog names advice, K9 breeders and kennels, dogs toys and puppy treats, animal rights and rescue and more

Well.......as gringo said it depends what are your goals......first you have to work for increase traffic to your website from other sources because traffick is the key for success of any website....and you must be patient for around 4-6 months...

Thanks everyone! I know it takes patience. I created a website for my sister's real estate (those are a PAIN to advertise)... it took me almost two years. However she's a page one google result for her desired keywords. It definately took a lot of work.
