After consulting with Vangogh, I decided to start a newsletter on the same topic as my forum to aid in my SEO efforts. It also turns out that it will provide a nice little revenue stream.

This accomplishes several things.

1. Reminds users who have not been on lately to check in.
2. Can be forwarded to non-forum members, reaching an even broader audience.
3. Each issue is published on newsletter website - great, searchable content pointing back to my site.
4. Each issue will be archived on my own site - more great, searchable content to help increase SERP.

Here is a link to view my first issue:
http://www.mynewsletterbuilder.com/t..._id=1409627107

Opinions welcome...

It just went out today, so I don't have it archived yet but will have it up on my own site next week. Mine is a custom newsletter, but there are also free templates offered at the site who did mine. Their service includes subscription management, and doing the actual e-mailing. It's www.mynewsletterbuilder.com in case anyone else wants to check them out.

It's a little more effort than trading links, but I think it will pay much greater dividends.

I hope others find this helpful.

Newsletters aren't really a SEO tool, they are more useful as a marketing tool, so belong to the wider aspect of SEM.

Actually, I meant to say SERP, but was not allowed to edit the title. I agree about it being a marketing tool, however, I think it could also help in terms of SERP if you have written a quality article, relevant to your site, along with a link of course.

As always, I stand to be corrected. Regardless, I think it's a underused tool and more effective than a lot of techniques people keep trying.

You better hope it remains an underused tool - gives you a competitive advantage!

I think it's a brilliant idea, actually. There's the standard SEO fodder like back links and lots of food for the search engines to chew on. Which you wouldn't get out of a email alone. But I think the genius is in publishing the old ones - I had a look, and if I had a pool I'd probably sign up based on what I see. The difference is in the old email blasts not just vanishing.

Kind of like a blog in some ways if you think about it.
