I used to run a myspace layout website and couldn't quite figure out how I got a PR of 3 or 4. Thinking back I realized I had exchanged links with every MySpace Top Site website. If your website is in a popular category you might just be able to get a high PR by finding all the topsites in your category and trading links. Here is an example of one of the websites I traded with:

if you have alot of links/backlinks... you probably going to have higher PR.. besides it seems easy coz its a social networking..

That's the point I was trying to make. If your website is in a popular niche you will find more top sites for that category.

not really...what if those links are not related? it will cause negative effect of course...I'm just being specific for this, to get high PR, you must have quality related backlinks to your site. Of course, the more quality related backlinks your site has, the higher the PR you'll get.

PLEASE understand this!

PR is created by links AND ONLY LINKS it doesn't matter one teeny tiny little miniscule bit whether the links are "related" OR NOT!!!!

PR will still happen in the same amounts REGARDLESS of the linking page content.

AND there is NO MINUS in the PR calculation so some inbound links will NEVER cause PR to go down.
The links will pass the PR they pass regardless. IF the linking page PR value reduces then the amount of PR passed will be reduced, and therefore the recipient page PR value will drop by the same amount.
BUT there is NO minus calculation!

How did you come to believe this, and what negative effect do you think can be caused by getting linked to from a seemingly unrelated page?

Isn't PR meaningless to Rankings? I would focus more on getting better placement.

For the most part, yes it is. I believe it has a small value otherwise Google would ditch it completely, but it should be very low down on the SEO priority list as it has little effect on search engine rankings.

Selling links because of PageRank is another waste of time - definitely for the person purchasing it anyway

The toolbar PR value is meaningless for ranking.

The REAL PR value is however one factor among more than 100.

Yes it is and submitting to free directories was also a good help for your PR.

Well........large no of backlinks can help only to get a good PR if they are relevant otherwise not because quality matters a lot and not the quantity.

PR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RELEVANCY OR QUALITY AND RELEVANCY AND QUALITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PR.
