No, they don't. But that doesn't mean you should leave meta tags out.

With the exception of Google, some search engines use the contents of the
keywords and description tags to determine the content of the page. They
are also used to provide a description of your site in their listings.

Meta tags are pretty important, althougth they might not hold as much importance while determining SERP rankings as they used to but they still play some part. Leaving them completely out will be a big mistake.

It won't do you any hurt if you put meta tags, well in fact, it's not a hard work putting some... right?

No, meta tags do not help in getting better ranking.......Meta tags are now devalued by google but it is still have little value in terms of yahoo and some other search engines.

just be careful on your use of meta tags. If you are targeting one of your competitors trademarks, it could get you in hot water.
