Which deep links to get?

I have a site www.mysite.com and I want to get some deep links to this www.mysite.com/folder/ but I don't know if that is the best place to build links to or should it be to www.mysite/folder/index.html

To give more information it is a travel site in and has tonnes of good content after the folder - all written by me. So I think that getting links should not be too hard - but I want them where they will help.

Please help.

To be honest, it doesn't matter too much. BUT - choose one or the other. Then place a server side redirect on so that any links going to the other location will be sent to the chosen address and the benefits of the links won't be spread over both addresses. This is because search engines tend to see different addresses as different pages/web sites - a www and a non-www address appear to Google as 2 different sites and the same goes with folders and pages.

There are a number of tutorials on the web about server side redirecting. If you are using a Linux server, Google for .htaccess redirect index.html or something and it should bring up a number of results.

Being consistent is the key.

BUT if you use the folder name only, should the time come to change server technology or use scripted pages there will be no problem with having to use redirects.

I'd agree with Chris. Google won't see any difference between domain.com/folder/page.html and domain.com/folder/ but using only the folder and a redirect will be noticed by some users ... if you're counting on people to link to you, some will copy and paste from the address bar, and some will just type your address from memory. The page name is just one extra thing to remember.

Plus, it'll be easier should you ever decide to move between php, asp, and cold fusion.
