I have recently started joining some business directory groups on Facebook. I have only joined about 15 or so thus far but there are hundreds, maybe a few thousand. But I have had a few visits this way and only started this about 4 weeks ago. Plus i noticed many of them, when i check my links in a google search ("links"http://www.website.com).

I simply post a URL in the write something area, it checks the path and comes up with your meta description. You can even choose a picture from the webpage your linking to which can attract attention.

I cannot see this getting you banned otherwise there wouldn't be business directories on facebook. I will be continuing this trick and will see where it gets me. Plus i will check to see if other social networking sites have similar features.

One thing with social networking sites like facebook is that there are so many users everyday, search engines like google are almost constantly spidering the pages. So in theory any pages with your links will be visible to search algorithm's pretty quick.

I use digg, propeller, mixx and reddit. i Think these are the top social bookmarking sites, and the best.

yeah!! you get lot of visitors if you daily submit new content to your site and submit your web to social boomarking/networking sites

Excellent point Chris, in the past I spent entirely too much time with Digg and SU (still use SU sparingly to boost traffic) but not ONCE did any traffic I got from social bookmarking sites provide me any sales or conversions.

I have made some great connections recently on LinkedIn and Twitter though, including finding a new vinyl fence and rail supplier that provided me with products that were much more competitive in my market.

None of the social sites (in my view) do anything for SEO, but if used properly are great for networking.

social networks sites and social bookmarking sites can be a good for getting backlinks to your site. If your post/news popular you will get more traffic. As well as most of these sites have a huge traffic & a high page rank that's also useful.

Honestly, I'm just getting a good traffic in propeller, stumbleupon, twitter and facebook.
In propeller, you need to join in many groups and gain your friends. Also you need to have a unique and effective title when submitting yours story, so that it will be visited.
In stumbleupon,you need to interact with reviewing some sites and gain your friends then you can share your favorites websites to them.
Twitter, gain your followers
Facebook groups, gain your members..

That's what I usually do and it is very time consuming but worth it if you just handled it in a right way.
