First i wanna say i asked this in the web site design forum but after further thought i think this forum maybe better or atleast complentary so i am posting it here as well.

okay I am having some trouble figuring out which is the best method on nameing merchants for deal site.

for instance would you go

Gamefly or Game Fly

TicketsNow or Tickets Now

HockeyGiant or Hockey Giant

FranklinCovey or Franklin Covey

Now all of them could be done by adding the .com but from an affiliate site point of view it has drawbacks one is the likelyhood of a cut and paste to avoid you getting the referal fee and your keyword on every page becomes .com ;-)

So then I thought I would mimic what they call themseves on their site minus the .com but it appears that more then likely a searcher seaches with the words seperated for example

FranklinCovey does not use a space between the words on thier site they call themselves FranklinCovey or FranklinCovey.com exclusively. However, if you check searches done for Franklin Covey and FranklinCovey its hands down more do space between them.

Usually though if this is the case then there are more affiliate sites for the term thats searched more.

So what method would you use to make your menus and do your keywords ?

If your so worried about people cutting and pasting the URL with your affiliate code why not just mask the URL and redirect it?

Written for a different reason but is valid

Redirecting (Masking) Affiliate Links

How to word the anchor text is where word research comes into play.

okay thats not exactly what i am asking.

I am saying that I am making a merchant only page and the navigational menu thats on every page.

How do I decide which way to name the merchant ?

FOr example lets say I am pushing these 5 companys these are the first 5 that I have on my site

My navigational menu looks like this currently

Featured Merchants(unclickable title of menu)

4yourptinter(clickable goes to 4yourprinter page with just thier coupons)
Allergy Be Gone
Aerogarden
Avenue
EntirelyPets

Now what I am asking is would you write it as

4 your printer
Allergy Be Gone
Aero Garden
Avenue
Entirely Pets

or

4yourprinter
AllergyBeGone
AeroGarden
Avenue
EntirelyPets

or something inbetween ?

Now whatever I name it in the navigational menu found on each page will also be he name that that specific merchants page is named ... example

4yourprinter page would have

<title>4yourprinter coupon codes</title>
<h1>4yourprinter coupon codes</h1>
<h2>4yourprinter</h2>
(first words starting in <p> would be "4yourprinter" in <i> and <b>

and if I went this other route

4 your printer the page owuld have

<title>4 your printer coupon codes</title>
<h1>4 your printer coupon codes</h1>
<h2>4 your printer</h2>
<first words starting in the <p> would be "4 your printer" in <i> and <b>

also corresponding folders would be named likewise example

http://www.couponcodexxx.com/4-your-...r-coupon-code/

or

http://www.couponcodexxx.com/4yourprinter-coupon-code/

So obviously from an SEO point of view there is reasons to do it each way I am sure its more likely that if you seperate the words that you get some benefit out of the words that make up the parge for example when i write 100 words about 4yourprinter its going to be different then writing 100 words about 4 your printer.

Now as I said before should I mimic what the store calls themselves ?

should I go by what the surfers search by ?

should i go by what has less or more SERPs already ?

As I said among cupon code sites there seems to be no norms other then single word domains usually have the .com added and mutilple word domains seem to have it removed. So buy.com is not ever listed as "buy coupons" its called "buy.com coupons"over 95% of all coupon sites would have entirely pets writen as EntirelyPets or Entirely Pets but never ever EntirelyPets.com.

What method would you use ? and why ?

As I said,
Quote:

do your Word Research to find out what potential customers are looking for and use that.

The link is with regard to this:-
Quote:
the likelyhood of a cut and paste to avoid you getting the referal fee
If it is redirected two the benefits are;

1/ No one can bypass your affiliate code link because they never see it

2/ You can track every click on every link giving you your own stats on what are the better performing ones.
You can also give the links a local tracking code so the position on the page for each link can be mapped. You then build up your own research on exactly where links on the pages are more likely to be clicked.

All this kind of data is invaluable from your POV and has a tangible value for others should you wish to sell the research on at a later stage.
