How many keywords should I use to promote a website? If I put too many, each of them will count for less?

I found that article but I'm not sure if its right or not.

Sorry; it's a terrible article. The first paragraph is wrong, and what follows gets more wrong. Keyword density gets a lot of attention, but honestly wastes a lot of peoples' time. Anyone who looses sleep wondering how many words to use on a page really isn't doing them self any favors.

It's generally a good idea to design for human users, not for robots. If you do nothing but stuff a particular keyword into your copy over and over and over again, people will get tired of reading it and leave. That's going to happen before any search engine might raise flags for stuffing. Anyway, you aren't going to rank better for having used a phrase a dozen times versus a few.

What Forrest said. Keyword density in and of itself is becoming less and less important with more and more people searching for longtail phrases. A lot of the time, you're better off targeting an 8-word phrase and mentioning it once than you are targeting a 2-word phrase and mentioning it 10 times, since the competition is lower and the phrase is more targeted.

The best thing you can do is to just go about your business writing content, put any keyphrases you feel like focusing on anywhere that the'll fit organically, and be done with it. Good content attracts good people who share it with other good people.

i don't usually focus on how many or where/how am i going to target my kws especially in my content/article coz I might not deliver the main topic or subject of it bcoz you emphasizes more your kws... i believe it would be better if its natural...

There's no definite keywords to use. Try to use keywords that best describe the content of your site. They should be relevant to your site's them. And don't repeat them...

The use of keywords in the is depends upon the site. More keyword phrases give good results but keyword density keep in mind. The limit of keywords in site is 1024 characters.

The main thing is that your keywords should be relevant to the site, describing it, there isn't a definite number lol...

The more keyword you optimized tour website for, the more traffic you got.
I usually focus on one keyword and for one week i work on that keyword. After getting top in google for that keyword, i found another less competetive keyword and work on that keyword. I repeat the process again and again.

And now i am working on keyword "< link drop REMOVED!!!! > . I am on page 2 in google and soon i will be in No. 1

there's no limitation when it comes to the number of keywords as long as it is related then include it... well that is, if you think you can have them all rank then why not!?

Agreed with you, as long as you don't spam or stuff kws..
you can't really avoid to repeating some kws.

Get a few quality keywords / phrases that describes your theme. Those keywords/phrases and the relevant content will help to promote your site well. Always add more relevant content pages regularly to your site. Even one mis-spelled keyword can help your site more than a 100 other keywords. Know what people are looking for in the SEs, and use those words /phrases as your keywords!

there's no limit on how many or how much you need for your keywords. Just target all the related and most searched keywords that you think would definitely suit your niche. Avoid redundancy as well.

I found this thread through google search when I typed in "how many keywords should i use". (#3 on the first page beneath the one sponsored result if anyone is curious)

What I was actually looking for is a general number for the amount of keywords that should be placed in my meta tag in the heading.

With the OP's link removed, I can't tell by his post if that is what he is asking about or the use of keywords & phrases in the article/page text, but by some of the replies, I can assume the question was regarding how many to use in the content/article of the page itself?

If so, in my limited experience, I've always put the main keyword phrase in the title, and in the article, use it in <h2< once and <b< or <strong< once, and the sparingly in normal text as needed in the article.

other keywords or phrases should be used to support the article, but not repeated so much that someone searching for the true topic of your article doesn't find it.

find keyword with high searches.put there in quality content with moderate keyword density will give high PR,but for getting high SERPs you need to work on some seo tactics around those keywords.practicing only organic seo tactics will surely give your site good result.
