Anyone interested in making one?

I've been in four of them. I've won prizes from two of them, and two are still going.

Redscowl Bluesingsky, won $500 and an Apple Laptop.
Carcasherdotcom Seocontest, I won the first monthly $500 prise from Google.

retsambew dash klat for Charity is still going and the v7ndotcom elursrebmem ended in May.

That would be a great idea for a contest here. Activity exploded on v7n when the contest was announced. Though rules can make or break a contest. The charity contest isn't very friendly when it comes to rules (New domain, keywords can't be in domain.) so that contest doens't have very much competition.

No, I have not. The contest on this forum right now is my first webmaster related contest, even though it really isn't an SEO contest.

I am unfamiliar with an SEO contest. What exactly are they? What would the point be? It sounds like an interesting concept, but I can't immagine what the goal of the contest would be. Do elaborate.

He is how the work. Somebody comes up with a made word or a new brand name and the idea is to rank the highest in the search engines for that term. A time limit is set and whoever has the #1 ranking on that date wins the contest.

Well, I've never participated in one, but I am very interested in doing so - not to win, but more to learn from the techniques used. And I agree - this would make a great contest to have here at Earner's Forum in a month or so: whatta ya say, Lee?

I think you are on to something. Will there be an SEO contest in EarnersForum's future? SEO contests can go bad, however, just ask Shoemoney about his. He certainly got a lot of links in a short amount of time but he also ran into some trouble along the way.

Yeah, I would also be interested in a contest such as this. Now, how long would the deadline be? Because wouldnt it take a while for search engines to rank a web site? Well, at least longer then a couple of days?

You can get indexed in less than 24 hours if you know what you are doing. Usually most of them last for a couple of months to give people time to implement their strategies.

Indexed in 24 hours?? how would you do that? I really need to brush up on my SEO skills if people can get ranked that quickly... can they get ranked on the first page for their keyword in 24 hours?

Absolutely, as a matter of fact I have done it. I must say, however, that the keyword was not even the least but competitive and it was the exact keyword as the domain.

I think a decent timeline for such a contest would be 2-3 months, right?

That or longer. The Carcasher contest started in March and goes until the end of the year. The v7n one lasted five months. The charity one is also a long one.

Don't think it is worth learning MSN not much traffic
Google is what I am best at.
Google has twice the traffic as yahoo and 5 to 10 times the traffic on MSN

I wold be interested in a SEO contest If there is a nice prize

Shoemoney had a contest to see who could rank for his name...that's the only one I've ever tried. My site came in #4 in MSN and #9 in Google. He sent me $180 for it... it was fun though!

I won the V7N contest, it was fun but pretty long, I think I won $7k + a Video Ipod. I much prefer no rules and let it be as it is in the wild where the only rules you concern yourself are the one's that get your site kicked out of G.
