Some people really believe that I spend a ton of hours on my website's SEO, but I really don't. I just spend about 30 minutes every two weeks (if that) on SEO.

How about you?

Depends a lot on the project.

I've been "hired" before to do the SEO on a few site and it was a few hours a day for about 2-3 days each. I'm not an SEO master but I think I helped the guy who owned the sites.

Anyway, he was an a**hole, I never got paid

After my sites are optimized properly, I would go and do link building which is an important aspect of SEO and so, you can't limit the time spending on SEO.

I would say 3-4 Hours Per Day!

I don't spend any time, although thats partly because I don't run any sites :P Though I will be doing some reading/research on SEO for one of my future sites, so I will start doing it properly then.

There is no determined time to spend on SEO imo. If am always looking for ways to improve my rankings so when I find something new that I think will work I proceed to implement it. I am always looking for ways to get higher in the rankings.

I've probably spent about 20 minutes last month on SEO. I'm not really big on that as I don't rely on search engines for traffic. I spend more time exchanging links and posting at forums to get visitors to my sites.

I sold my soul to Google a few months ago.

Anyway, I'm actually fairly efficient with my SEOing. I've installed a mod for Firefox called InFormEnter (sorry, I forget the link, try Google). InFormEnter is great for easily submitting your site to directories, so I do a lot of that. Then I add my site in my signature at every available forum and try to give myself a good name so people will click the link.*

*By the way, if anyone's wondering, I'm having hosting problems, that's why my site isn't in a signature here.

All the time.

No, seriously, most of my SEO-related work is spent on analysis, such as log files, inbound weights, etc.

I'm more like the other guys here in that its so integrated with what I do that I couldn't give an estimate. However, I'm not yet a forum or social network guy like those here, so that may be an issue.

Regards,
Joshua

SEO goes into everything I do. I dont create a page without SEO being a part of it.

New pages are properly "H" tagged always. Articles are always submitted to article sites.

URL's are always created when making a new site with SEO in mind.

I spend zero time on SEO. None. My goal is to understand the purpose of what the search engines [read: Google] are trying to accomplish and be ahead of them so that they come to me rather than me trying to figure out where they're going and panic every time there's a "Google dance".

My best practice: produce quality unique content for your site at least 2-3 times per week, at least 250 words per entry, and then participate in industry and marketplace discussion forums to raise your visibility.

Think of it this way: would you rather find sites where you can request a link back to your own and hope that the search engines care about it, or would you rather gain the reputation that you're so sharp and plugged in that people naturally want to read -- and link to -- your content? I can absolutely assure you that the latter is a far, far better strategy in the long run with any of the search engines.

Embodiment of my philosophy:

Growing Your Business with Google (book, about $14 @ Amazon)
Exploding Your Business with Blogging (highly rated course)

Thoughts?
