I'm not talking about the run it and submit to 900 directories software. I am interested if any of you use software to help you manage your manual submissions or to find and track exchange requests? or even to monitor your competitors linkbacks for possible link exchange requests.

I thought about doing it via spreadsheet, but I really believe in the work smarter not harder concept. If you use software to streamline this process, I would love to get your thoughts on it.

I tried the demo of ARELIS, but it didn't seem to get me relevant sites. At first I was really excited by the way it looked and ran, but I had nothing but problems with it. In the end, it didn't do the job I was hoping.

I would research these software companies closely. I don use any of them. I also don't exchange links with those that submit to me with the obvious generic link exchange email.

I just use a directory and require a recip for them to submit to the directory. I spend very little time with this, however.

I would rather submit to the directories like you mentioned than mess with link exchanges. Too much work to properly monitor them manually, and I hate those generic emails that like to "warn" me that I am not displaying someone's link when I obviously am.

I am actually considering dumping my links directory and just exchanging links with the sites that are extremely similar to mine.

Maybe I should clarify a bit.

I really want something that has a database and contact type tracker. I would love to be able to view a page and have it add the contact email, so I can go back later and send the requests in a more bulk fashion.

For two of my projects, I am looking at thousands of contacts I will have to make and I really don't want to tackle this manually. In both cases, I know these people want me to contact them. As crazy as it sounds, they want people like me to help promote them.

Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it.

This was the original reason I created PHP Link Directory. It allows you to add 3 fields: Title, URL, Webmaster Email. Then you just hit submit, and it sends using the email template you created. You can later also check to see if they are still reciprocating, and then remove the ones that are not. You can also make some nice reports showing all the sites that were submitted. And it has features to help prevent you from submitting to the same site twice.
