One of my much smaller projects has been up since late April and is still not indexed. What's weirder is that the site actually got a page rank (PR 3) this last update. I don't know much about search engines ... is there a reason that my site is still not indexed by Google?

http://www.talkrock.org (I know the activity is dead ... the forum is on the backburner until I get the time to try to start it up)

Where did you get the domain? Was it registered before? Always a possibilty of getting a banned domain.

But also I bought a domain from someone and had a ton of links going to it. Yahoo/MSN were loving and it took Google 3 months to even index it. Was very weird for me since I normally dont have to wait over a week to get indexed.

So either its banned or you have bad luck.

Well also is the content original? You will get PR with dup content but if Google dont want to index it because of the content then that could happen.

First, your meta tags are way too generic, you will never rank against the big boys in this industry;

<meta name="keywords" content="rock, forum, music, talk, promote, bands, guitar, singer, vocalist, bass, drums" />
<meta name="description" content="Promote your band, list concerts/shows, or just talk about anything rock and roll - talkrock.org." />

Second, I don't see a google sitemap; e.g.,

http://www.talkrock.org/sitemap.xml

but maybe vbulletin is doing it for you with every post, of which there are few.

Maybe this will give you some insight

Opps I didnt read the part where you listed the site. Looked like a signature.

The reason you are not indexed is plain and simple.

You dont have any backlinks to your site. (according to marketleap.com)

aaron:

I registered the domain myself about 4 months ago. So it shouldn't be banned. And the content is original I guess since it's just a little bit of music banter.

pcdoc:

I know the site isn't exactly search engine optimized, but I still don't think that makes sense. My wimpy little minisite, deadliestcatch.net, was indexed 1 day after including a single link from my main site. TalkRock.org has over 100 backlinks (including one from my main site) and still hasn't been indexed.

I have a site with the same issue, and I think it's b/c of the "tons of backlinks" too many too fast can result in sandbox.

I don't think meta tags are your problem. They wouldn't keep you from getting listed and they're not used to determine rank in any major SE.

You might want to email Google (see link below) to see if the site is blacklisted for some reason. I had a site blacklisted and when I emailed them and told them that I'd recently bought the domain they lifted the ban and crawled the site again. Now they have a "reinclusion request" on Google Sitemaps:

I still don't believe that someone got listed on Google in only 1 week, except if his site was published a little before Google's big crawl. I mean, this is not only metter of your site if it would be indexed or not.

2-3 days for a brand new domain. It normally doesn't take longer than that. You just need to give it one good link from a page that gets crawled at least once a day.

I've had it happen with submission of a google sitemap.

If listed you mean indexed in one week then that is not that uncommon. Mostly every site that I launch is indexed on Google in less than a week.

I'll try that reinclusion request link. Thanks.

As for getting a site indexed ... like I said I have another domain that had a text link right under the one for Talkrock on one of my main sites and it was indexed the next day.

Thanks for the replies fellas!
