I just found out that some feed scrapping sites are hitting me, what effect can this have on SEO/PR? Should I stop this?

From what i understand; if they are scraping you then your content will be considered original and they will receive the PR penalty for the "Duplicate" content.

The bigger question is, do you want someone scraping your content?

Yahoo and MSN will credit you with a link... not a great link but a link. Your not going to stop them... don't give yourself an ulcer. Let it be.

is BlueHat SEO. Definetly worth a read, and will probably inspire some new project that is going to take up some of your valuable time.

Although I don't know if it's correct or not (I'm still a young lil' seo-er haha), this article has an interesting perspective on it:
http://www.pandia.com/sew/169-duplicate-content.html

Read the article for the details, though essentially he's saying: there may be a penalty in the sense that if the copying site has higher PR than you, they may receive the credit (though I imagine if Google has already indexed and cached your page before theirs, Google's smart enough to give you the credit). He also mentions that if the copying site is decent enough to at least link back to you, their PR vote will still be useful to you.

Again, I dunno if the article is correct, but it's an interesting perspective on it I hadn't considered yet.

I found a great site as well tonight for locating copied content: www.copyscape.com (warning: only allows 20 searches/domain per month with non-premium membership).

Thanks guys! Just what I was looking for. I really dont mind them scrapping it because they do link and credit me. But since it was an automated feed ripping website I was afraid i'd get a penalty.

I'll listen to Pearse, take it as a marginal benefit.

Thanks again guys!

If it really does tick you off... Just block the ip of the scrapers or change your rss file name/directory.

If worst comes to worst you cannallways serve them up a C&D to stop.
