In an earlier thread about domain names with dashes in them, it seemed a lot of people recommended not to use dashes in their domain names. Well I've came up with a niche that seems to be greatly under developed however the keyword domain names are taken by individuals who made the site back in 1998 or store fronts that never got developed.

Now I could buy the domain names that have the keywords in dashes (two to three keywords), but most seem against the idea so my question is since the actual keyword domain names are taken and dashes are not recommended who do you guys feel about keywords.net or keywords.info OR even keywordsinfo.com sites?

I myself can't think of any .info or .net sites that I visit off the top of my head and that worries me as just like the rest of you I'd like to capitalize as much as possible on my niche markets.

What are your opinions about .net and .info sites or in this case would dashes better suit me?

I think keywords.info would be a great domain. On the other hand, if .com is available I would take that one because .coms are quite popular. I'm not sure about .net domains though.

Avoid .net, I think it's a horrible domain and just a step down from a .com

.infos stand for something, I would take that domain.

Also keywordinfo.com is quite bad, you lose the keyword density in the URL.

The thing is that if someone refers you to other people with the domain, they will most likely type in the domain.com anyway. Sure, they may search you and find your .net site, but still.

Another often disputed moment is taking only the .com domain for such convenience. This way the one with the .com domain won't be able to create a website about your business and pretend to be you.

I dont think the TLD makes a difference unless people are typing stuff in because as pointed out people sometimes add .com to stuff automatically (like they often add www. automatically too...).

As for SEO and SERPs and stuff, it makes no difference as far as I can tell.

So for SERPs, .info and .com and .net all have the same value? I'm looking to get high rankings for Nicekeywordniches.com and stuff. 3-4 word keyword phrases.

If .info have the same value, that would be great. I don't see many .info's in SERPs though?

Might just be because info is a fairly newish domain and there are a lot of existing sites dominating the top results in the areas you are looking in.

Well the actual good typin domain names are taken so I'm looking to register domain names that would benefit SEO and be easy for visitors to remember. The niche is I feel pretty under developed in terms of SEO - in fact every site I've looked at that's about this topic not one of them was SEO'd in any way. Most are either old 90's type sites done in front page that some mom put up, and then there was a decent amount of sites that had undeveloped store front someone started on but never finished.

So with good SEO I think I could out rank all of them or at least be some where in the top. So I really need a domain that someone can remember, but as I said earlier I can't even think of a .net or .info site.

If the competition is that low I wouldn't worry about your domain name as much as finding a good brandable name for the site that includes your keyword. IMO the major benefit of having a keyword in your domain name is when people use the url as anchor text for your inlinks. Lots of people use site name for anchor text also, so a nice optimized name for your site can have the same effect.

is BlueHat SEO. Definetly worth a read, and will probably inspire some new project that is going to take up some of your valuable time.
