I've noticed many sites forcing the "www" - if you leave it, couldnt it be seen as two websites? Is it best to use a 301 to make it so its all at www ?

Thanks

yes.. 301 to www. is the best solution to avoid duplicate content AND to profit from inbound links the most (ie; a link to site.com and a link to www.site.com would be treated seperate if not redirected)

I've done it using the following code in the .htaccess (using mod_rewrite of course)

Code:
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http:||(nourl)www(d0t)yoursite.com/$1 [L,R=301]
