Yahoo vs. Google Search

Could there be so much difference in results between these top 2 search engines?

When I do a search for "Martial Arts Forums" on Yahoo, believe it or not, my site comes up as the very first site.

However, if I do an exact same search on Google, well..... after flipping through several hundred pages, it never appears.

So, #1 on one search engine and not even on the map on another. I admit I don't know much about SEO and I could certainly learn more to benefit from it, but has anybody else experience such discrepancy? If so, what can you do to improve it?

I run YPN on the site. Could it be the reason why Yahoo likes the site but is hated by Google?

Ahh. Someone to share this pain with. I would've posted URL for search results but I haven't posted 15 posts yet and I get rejected.

#1 on Google SERPs
#2 on Yahoo SERPs

I'm a happy man.

(Being listed in Yahoo Directory & Dmoz has helped I guess, however I don't bother much about SERPs)

Pretty normal, each search engine has its own algorithm, its own spider and its own ranking factors, if you give me your url I can have a further look as to why Yahoo is ranking you higher than Google, Yahoo is known to put more influence on on-site factors where Google places allot of weight on off-optimization factors.

Google, IMHO, has shot themselves in the foot with their totally inefficient war on spam. I use Yahoo and/or Ask for my personal searching now. Tired of getting pages in my serps that are nothing but keyword-stuffing and hidden text.

Like Sohaib says, Yahoo likes on-site optimization more. For example, I added a text tagline to a blog, and it ranks #2 on Google for a tough keyword. Google used to have it in the 70s/80s (PR 5, massive linkage) but it would appear I'm lacking some strength for them.

Incidentally, and this is just a hunch, I get the impression Google has something similar to MSN's neighbourhood ranking in its algorithms. If you're linked to from, say, a bunch of French sites, you won't rank for "american cars." Because I recently got some important link love from major blogs in the niche, but they covered a different geographic are and my site is now in/out of the top 100 on google (100 on the mark, the other day).

By the way, Sohaib, I notice you're a sharp mind on SEO.
