Ok I've got about 3-4 sites that are all related in the same subject and I've been thinking about just creating a site network similar to that found at www.webhostingtalk.com (ie. their gray iNet interactive pull down menu bar)
If I created a similar bar to display across the top of each of the 3-4 sites of mine would this be any benefit for SEO and PR?
It's a good idea, and SEOChat.com uses a similar set-up. I'd code it in html, to make sure the links get crawled.
Another good trick, from the search engine watch newsletter, is to crosspromote your blogs/sites by mentioning each one in various posts.

I personally am infatuated with weblogsinc and the way they do it. Also the gawker/fleshbot/wonkette/etc network used to be nicely knit together but seems to have drifted apart with some new design.
That iNet bar at the top of the page you mentioned looks too much like an ad to me, and I'd never even notice it.

It makes sense to link your sites. You are opening doors to more page views, etc. when you suggest your visitors leave your site for another one of your sites and not an outside link.
