There is more to SEO than I could mention in one post. To get you started on the right foot for a newbie, get links from related sites that have the anchor text with the keywords you want. Also make sure you use the keywords you want to rank for on your website a good number of times.

To find out more, here are a few phrases to google.
Pagerank
Keyword Density
Onpage SEO
Offpage SEO
Link Building Strategies

There is still plenty more, but if you know that stuff you'll be off on the right foot.

PageRank is green pixel dust and not worth worrying about and keyword density is an irrelevant metric. For a novice guide try SEOmoz Beginner's Guide to Search Engine Optimization seomoz.org/beginners.php

Maybe you should tell Google about your pagerank theory, because they do care about it. No, it is not the only thing that matters, but it does matter, just ask Matt Cutts. Keyword density is still a valid metric of relevancy, just check the keyword density of any of the top ten results for SEO or any other competitive term. SEOmoz is a piece of crap. They steal stories from Aaron Wall and Matt Cutts and don't have any real content. They also charge outrageous prices.

I said green pixel dust. You know the PageRank indicator that has one of eleven values (0-10) in the Google Toolbar, or TPR. It's meaningless. Mostly because no one knows the relationship (if there is one) between the TPR and the PageRank that Google calculates and uses in its algo. Obviously the PageRank that Google uses is important but outside the 'plex no one knows it's value for any given page. TPR is also useless because it is keyword independent.

What do you mean still! It never was, it's an urban myth. Believe it if you want to and a lot of people do but keyword density values cannot be used as estimates of term weights, period.

Like "miserable failure" you mean? Where the top result out of 4 million has a keyword density of zero.

Maybe you are right or maybe you're not but irrespective the Beginner's Guide to Search Engine Optimization is quite good, you ought to read it.

Well then we'll have to agree to disagree. Nowadays you have to stop looking for the holy grail that will bring you rankings such as a Dmoz listing, or links alone. The SE don't rely too heavily on any one metric these days. They look at the whole picture. Links from relevent websites, keyword density, domain name, etc. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...

Also, I wouldn't consider "miserable failure" a competitive keyword. Not many companies/SEO optimize for that term.

One big thing that I can suggest is you need some content rich pages. Right some articles on the games that you have there, or one genres. Search Engines love content rich pages, that are full of useful keywords that are relevant to your site.

Yes getting links that point to your site are great. Just find like minded sites, that are willing to do link exchanges with you.

There are even some places that will so SEO for you for a yearly fee.
It really depends on what you want to spend to get people to your site I guess.

But the free ways are link exchanges and content rich pages just to name a few.

Thanks for listening

Jeff

I had a mentor help me with my first webpage and after the meta tags and keywords had been optimized he advised me to go on Overture and pay per click for about a month or two. He advised just getting on the first page not necessarily the highest bid but somewhere in the top. It worked after a month or so of mostly 10 to 25 cent paid clicks, I could drop overture and still rank near the top (at least on the first page) in the unpaid section. The spiders had done their work. It's something I've continued to do with other websites and it has always helped.

I'm an SEO, so you can PM me if you got any specific questions.

a couple of pointers:
  1. You should make your "non-www" site 301 redirect to your "www" site. This is 'cos Google will see them as two sites with the same content. Eventualy Google will drop some pages that it indexed.
  2. Move your JavaScript to a separate file.
  3. Rethink the contents of your keywords META tag - way too much keywords there.
  4. Make earch title and description unique to each page. Plus put some keywords in them.
  5. More text content!

The content that matters to your visitors is the only thing that will make your site popular. Unique content (titles, meta descriptions) and writing pages for the people is the way to go, currently.

Just running PPC won't help. You need focused quality content with some call to action to convert your visitors. More on that on my blog through the link in my signature.
