Hi,
I have developed a site (travelllama.com), and my content is growing daily. I am now trying to get ranked in the Engines, but am being pulled sideways by different opinions. ie, XcitePro which I use for my website - the SEO states I should not use more than 20 keywords! It also recommends that I must have content of between 500 and 1000 words per page, yet on some pages I want to put affiliate links (picture ads) only, which flies in the face of SEO, would this affect my rankings, or must I adhere to the Xcitepro SEO rules for every page on my site. I have not put up a contact page as yet, because this would not have enough content for SEO.

Any comments or help would be appreciated.

Kind regards
Martin

IMO you should build your site for visitors not search engines. Visitors may want to contact you, so there should definitely be a contact page. Put your users first, then worry about search engines after.

I agree with kthdsn as I will always put the quality of the users experience before SEO, but its nice to always keep SEO in mind, im also be curious about the answers to the OPs questions.

Generally, you need to target one, two or three related phrases on a page, not more. This doesn't restrict the number of pages you can have, though.
You can have hundreds of pages, each targeted at 2 keyphrases on average and thus target hundreds of keywords.

The length of your copy solely depends on whether it is enough for you to deliver the information you want to deliver without providing excessive information.

'recommends' not HAS to be. Put up a freakin contact page, put up a page with three word on it if you want. It is just doubtful that it will rank high. This WILL NOT hurt you though (unless you have a silly number of them, but that'd be ... well ... silly.)

Having NO contact page will hurt you. It is widely beleived that spiders look for things like contact pages, phone numbers, addresses, privacy statements and the like to factor in their trust rankings. Plus users look for it as a mark of trust. So put one up NOW before I come over there and slap you for taking some crap you read in a forum as gospel. This INCLUDES the crap I spew.
