I read in the news Google had started a project over San Francisco, giving free internet! (I think I will move over there soon) lol. But just imagine all the hacking that will take place over wifi. I think it teamed up with Earth Link to provide this free service.

True, but wouldn't there be an issue of bandwidth? I mean wifi don't have the ability to handle tons of user, thats if everyone decided to go wifi.

Maybe the wifi in SF is only in select locations. I know McDonalds has wifi also but only in select locations. I know a city and a restuarant can not be compared. But I think it is only in select areas. And I know that the public library system in Los Angeles has wifi. So I do believe it would only cover certain areas. Not the entire city.

Just a thought maybe if they do control where they place the wifi in SF. Maybe it is a way to control tourists to attract them to certain parts of the city. For those who have wifi.

In the city where I live we have certain wifis in restaurant and certain public places also. I use it quite often and have had no problems so far. No sites shutting down etc.

From TV and CNN. I read from time to time, but usually they announce it and plan on telling the public later on.

They are definetely going to have some hacking problems with that. A good way to advertise their company, if people haven't heard of it already.
